the Fort Zeelandia is a good point to overlook the river and learn about Suriname (slavery) history. As well as the more recent history, of the December Moorden (in 1982 opponents of the government, like journalists, were killed here. A small mueseum. And a little...More

If you want to know more about Surinam and its history you should definately visit this museum. But, I wanted to visit this location, because of the 15 murders that took place at this location in 1982. Which meant a lot for this country. The...More

Fort Zeelandia is a place where one can see the history of Surinam. We actually didn't visit the fortress because there's so much more to see in the vicinity and you don't have to pay for it, like monuments. It's a great place for a...More

Nice fort, but still very ironic that a guy who is a suspect of commiting a very serious crime at this place here holds office a few 100 meters away....

Very interesting historic fort. Lots to see and absorb but most of the descriptions are only in Dutch. The buildings are amazing, brick construction and well kept. Worth reading up on the history, old as well as modern before going to visit.

To understand a bit more of Suriname's history and the Dutch influence, this is a place you have to visit.

My cousin and I wandered around there for several hours. There are several magnificent displays and one can gain a clearer idea of the history and the life of those who lived in the interior of the country.
