Although it's a place of huge historical value, I must admit I was a little disappointed visiting Jodensavanne. There wasn't much left to see except two graveyards and some bricks that belonged to the synagoge. It's a place I wouldn't have want to have missed due to the historical value, but would love to have seen Suriname take more care... More

The jodensavanne is approximately an one hour drive from Paramaribo and you can also see during this ride a bit of the countryside of Suriname. The Jodensavanne is beautiful located on the banks of the Suriname river and in the jungle of Suriname. The site itself is not big and of the old buildings is not much left only a... More

This was an interesting place to see, but there is not really much there...and it is a long way to go. But for those who are interested in religion and history, it is worth the effort to visit. I would recommend a tour book/information prior to going, as there is not much context or content on site.

Been here for a daytrip. Except for the ruins and 2 graveyards there is nothing to see. Area needs maintenance and cleaning. Looks abandoned. Total time spent was about 1 hour so skip this and do something more interesting instead.

Got there by boat. Climbed the stairs to the top of the hill. The small museum was abandoned but the surroundings spoke to my heart. Beautiful. The ruine of the small synagogue, the separate graveyards for jewish settlers on the one side and for their negro slaves on the other side, the remaining and still readable grave yard stones with... My husband and I had a day to visit Paramaribo and made the perfect choice-a personal guided tour with Marina Da Costa to Jodensavanne. Marina knows this region better than most-she's a descendant of one of the earliest settlers in this area. The region is very personal for Marina and she made us feel personally involved also. I felt at... More

Another place which is worth visiting it. You can take a tour with a guide from stichting Joden Savanne. They can tell you about the history and show you it's history! It's a place where the history of Jews in Suriname began.

Today Marina da Costa showed us the Jodensavanne. Back in our guesthouse, we are still impressed by this mystic historical must-see. The trip was very wel arranged with delicious food and beverages and also Marina is a nice company to have :) We received lots of information, not only about the Jodensavanne but also broader about Jewish culture and about... This ancient area was part of the background from a Dutch film with the title " Hoe duur is de suiker". Very impressive with rather complete information for every location on what was happened. For almost 9000 slave from the Jews to work on their sugar cane plantation on those days, I suggest people to see the film to enrich... More
