This museum is a very musty, poorly lit place that happens to have a great collection. The items are mostly tribal and indigenous. The lighting could be better, the showcases could be cleaned, the labelling needs work. But the collection speaks for itself. Interesting and varied with pieces that you just don't see most places. Of note, why is photography not allowed?? Not even without flash??

We had a hard time finding the museum. When our taxi driver finally found it the entrance was unassuming and we had to ring a doorbell to get in. The collection of indigenous artifacts is quite good. Unfortunately the limited explanations were in Spanish. I missed more interpretation, and dates and places where the objects were collected. However, when we asked the guard/curator/guide he was very helpful and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the visit and I highly recommend the museum.

This small collection within a small, hidden library does not receive many visitors. The items are mainly indigenous and include burial urns, feathered costumes, canoes, weapons and other relics. We loved it!

The museum wasn't easy to find, because there isn't really a sign outside, and the city map we got from the hotel had it incorrectly located. Once we did find it we originally thought it was closed, because the entry was padlocked. However, the sign said "Abierto" and there was a bell to ring. So we rang the bell and after a minute a guy who looked like a janitor (he was wearing overalls and holding a broom) came, unlocked the door, and directed us upstairs. There museum consists of four or five rooms full of artifacts of the indigenous tribes of Paraguay - funerary urns, bows and arrows, a canoe, fishing nets, baskets, headdresses, etc. It is a great collection, although there isn't a lot of context provided - very few written explanations, etc. On the way out there is a large collection of photographs of indigenous ceremonies taken in the Chaco in the 1950s and 1960s - in many cases the anthropologist doing the field work inserted herself into the photos! Evidently she liked the look of herself. Definitely worth the visit.

Not much to rescue this little out of the way museum. It is on the edge of being in the center, so only go there if you have NOTHING else to do. The collection does include a series of photographs which are pretty cool - taken in the fifties of Chaco tribes' ceremonies (you can probably find these online - search Dr Branka Susnik). However, there is nothing in English, no guide, nada. Also, no pictures of anything - which is stupid because how else are they supposed to attract visitors?

It is a museum with a very interesting exhibition. It is worth visiting it and discovering that the ancient Paraguayans had a lot in common with the ancient Peruvians. The exhibition had many objects that are similar to those I have seen in museums around here.

It is very interesting, not only for the objects but for the written information, as it is sufficient and complete (in relation to the size of the museum). It is free, although it has a mailbox to make donations for its conservation. It's worth it.
