You get to this island by ship's tender, weather permitting. Besides the prison site, there is a guest hotel and resort facilities available. This historic site is not terribly well kept and the signage could have been better, but you certainly get the idea of...More

This site, made famous by "Papillon", is the best tourist attraction in French Guiana, boasting historical buildings from the infamous penal colony and pleasant walking paths among palm trees. A quaint hotel and restaurant are available.

Devil's island itself is a bit unapproachable but the broader sense of Devil's Island includes the former prison now hotel. The island has some beautiful birds, the world's biggest rodents, and some aggressive monkeys. Very pleasant though a bit warm.
