About
The Banco de la República Gold Museum houses one of the most important collections of pre-Hispanic metallurgy in the world. As its history, which dates back to 1939, has unfolded, so this institution has become a symbol of Colombia's cultural memory. Its golden exhibition, fully renewed in November, 2008, is a place you cannot miss in your next trip to Bogota.

    Amazing history and displays galore!
This is another “must” for everyone. Slight entrance fee, but worth the visit l, especially the final surprise display at the end of the tour. Gave me insight into the vast Colombian origins and tribes. As in many museums you pick and choose the presentations, some more interesting than others.

The museum is very interesting and well put together. You get tode how gold ND other metals influenced Colombia and the rest of Latin America. It's about 2 hours long and worth going to if you're visiting Bogota.

    A highlight of Bogotá
If you only visit one museum, this is the one. The quantity and craftsmanship of the pre-Hispanic gold artefacts is amazing. Clean, safe, and affordable. Could use more translations or at least somewhere to get an uneasy overview of the culture groups as this can easily get confusing. The exhibition is very antiquarian with a focus on the artefacts themselves with little context, provenience or even typology. Just a bunch of gold artefacts divided by region, but the quantity and craftsmanship makes up for the lack of narrative and wider context.

    Worthwhile to visit.
This is an interesting museum, covering the history of Colombia as it relates to the use of gold. I liked the exhibits, and this is a very nice museum. It may not be everyone's cup of tea. But I was with a tour guide who definitely knew what he was talking about. So that helped a lot. Overall, I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Bogota to stop by this museum. I definitely enjoyed my visit.

    Well worthwhile!
Very well done museum. Enough to look at especially representations to explain pieces in 3rd floor. Second floor showing pieces from different regions was a little overwhelming given our limited time. I’d go again just for better look at 2nd floor. Make sure to see the 5-7 min display in the theater. It was so cool.

It's a great museum. In terms of the grandeur of the collection on par with the Larco Museum in Lima. The Metropolitan Museum collection of Central American gold (which has a few excellent pieces and is probably the best one in the US) is not even close. The admission is CLP 5000 (~$1), seniors free.

Interesting museum to understand the history of Colombia, traditions, beliefs and golden craftsmanship.
Wonderful museum about the history of gold mining and golden artifacts of various areas of Colombia. Nice presentation of the historical usage of golden artifacts by chamans, connecting to spiritual beliefs of local tribes. Well explained different techniques they used alongside centuries to work with gold.

    Lavish displays
The museum is centrally located and not far from Plaza de Bolivar. It has many floors of fantastic gold and other metal exhibits. It is a fair price and has options such as an audio guide or a personal guide to show you around. Or, you can just wander by yourself if you wish. I do recommend visiting Lake Guatavita first, as you will have a better understanding of the indigenous people who made and wore the gold jewellery and how the gold ties in to the ceremonies at the lake from ancient times.

Man alive for gold. Lots of gold to drool over throughout history. Very well presented and well lit. You can photograph whatever you see. The museum is operated by the Banco de la Republica (Central Bank of Colombia).

Well worth it and a bargain
This place was a pleasant surprise. We had a day to kill in Bogota on the way to fish for peacock bass so we spent a day at the museum and wandering around the area. Great experience and a pleasant surprise for me. The area also has fun shopping and food vendors

This museum is definitely worth a visit. It is located in the middle of the forty. Easy to find. The exhibits are interesting and well presented. Most explanations are in spanish but not english unfortunately. However it’s worth looking at even without the explanation. I did see people walking around with audio guides but this wasn’t offered to me when i purchased my ticket. probably cause i can’t speak spanish. 😀

It’s a nice museum and easy to navigate. Inexpensive to visit at 5000 peso. However a few crying and noisy babies can be very irritating and noisy. Also a lot of items are very similar and it feels like they expanded the space to show more of the same items.

Superb, well-organized, and very informative museum about the process, history, value, and importance of gold in the history of South America.

Well laid out. Clean. An amazing number and type of artifacts, including some of the most important pieces in pre-Columbian life. Much of the explanations in English and Spanish. Docents in many areas and proactively helpful. Lighting is hood. Walking spaces sufficient.

Gift shop with many fine items, albeit slightly more expensive than expected. Good variety of food and snacks at the cafeteria.

Lots in this walking area of the El Central zone of the city. Just be conscious, aware, and alert… as crime sometimes does happen to those that appear easy targets.

Fantastic museum detailing the importance of gold to the indigenous people who lived in Colombia before the arrival of the Spanish. I went with a tour guide so it was nice having every piece we looked at explained to me and I learned so much about the history and importance of gold to these peoples up to and including the legend of El Dorado. Admission was incredibly reasonable for a museum, and probably good to spend 60 - 90 minutes exploring at a leisurely pace

We loved the Gold Museum! Went there with our family and friends who were in Bogota for a family wedding and they were surprised by the beauty of the exhibitions and the collection! Everything is so well explained that you don't need a guide to tour you. It’s awesome!
