National Museum of Colombia

About
Colombia's oldest museum holds a vast collection of archeological artifacts, as well as modern art. The building itself is interesting — it's a former prison and many of the galleries are inside former prison cells.

Historical building, great location. But they only have Spanish placards and audio guides. What a miss! For a museum in the capitol city that boasts the country’s history you’d think they’d welcome all tourists and have options for multiple languages. We couldn’t figure out most of what we were seeing even with an Apple translation app.

It's a good museum and it has a bunch items which look interesting but since the signage is mostly in Spanish it remained a mystery to me. The third floor is home to a half dozen of early Botero paintings.

The National Museum of Columbia charges foreigners in US dollars. The rate is not high for the US, but it is much higher than most other attractions in Colombia. They also don't accept credit cards. Also, over 90% of the signs are NOT in English. The exhibits don't tell the story of Colombia and are a hodgepodge of items. I suggest skipping it.

This museum only accepts pesos even though the foreign fee is listed in US$. They also do not accept credit cards. So be aware, for a national museum, this was really disappointing.

The architecture and design of the Museum is so interesting. It was a prision before it was a museum. There´s a lot to explore with it´s collections and what it means to be Colombian.

Exhibits seem interesting but 95% of the museum is in Spanish...not a problem except foreigners need to pay $48000 compared to $6000 for locals. Pay more, receive less.
If you sell a ticket for foreigners, the museum should be suitable for foreigners.
Avoid unless you speak Spanish to a high level.

Basically, get about 2 hours to do the whole museum and you will learn in that time a lot of context from Colombia, from art to history, ethnicies and costumes, this museum its a treasure of Bogota and the country as well.

Fantastic curation of a very interesting space. Please people get over Pablo Escobar, Colombia is a fantastic country with a very interesting culture and history, all of which is brilliantly displayed here.

Colombia's national museum is VERY beautiful and they have organized it and restored it to a nice cultural center that is lovely in architecture and art pieces. Well worth the $1 or 4000 COP price to enter!

I will be traveling to Bogota with my family in April. Does anyone know if a Tuesday or Wednesday is a good day to visit?

Yes, it is. Visiting on working days is preferred than going on the weekends. You can visit after 10:00 a.m. And I believe they close at 4:00 p.m.
