I love fruit so I like to check out fruit markets. This is not special at all. If you’ve been to fruit markets in SE Asia then you will find this just a waste of time.
Fruits are overpriced (at least if your Spanish is as bad as mine!) and again it’s nothing special.
I must say I went very late so flowers were non existence. My friend went at 6 AM (I know crazy!!) With a tour and he claims it was really nice!so maybe if you go supper early for the flowers it will be nice but I would never lose my sleep for this.

The market is fascinating though a little overwhelming at first. It’s located in a rough area, and while getting there by Uber is easy, getting picked up isn’t as the pick up point is unclear given the sheer size of the market.
However it is well worth the visit. More fruits you’ve never seen or heard of! It’s a working market, not a tourist site. There are a number of food stalls there too. We had some delicious tacos.

Our tour company Kuoda Travel set us up with our guide to do a tour of the flower markets and the fruits and vegetables markets. This was incredible. We started off in the flower section and the flowers were beautiful. It was safe, clean, nobody was haggling us, there was so much to see and there’s so many fruits and vegetables that were foreign to us. Our guide had us try several fruits, cheeses, coffee, desserts, and more. We picked up some of the food needed for our cooking class here. This was a great experience.

A colourful and wonderful market full of fruit and veg that you don’t see anywhere else in the world. Some of the stall holders were welcoming and happy to try to understand my limited Spanish, others not so much.
The fish and meat section also has a vast variety of foods. Recommend stopping to try the fresh Arepas.

We had planned to check this giant market and finally got it done today. I'm sure for locals who have favorite vendors and know exactly where to find what they want it is a breeze. Lots of corridors and many weren't open, they have garage door style entries. In the open market area we easily found fruits and veggies, we found the fishmongers area and the butcher's area, even the egg man.. We stopped at "Jugos and Ensaladas" (juices and salads) for a fresh mango juice. Priced right. It looked like everyone was having a fruit salad with ice cream. Looked great. We didn't have a kitchen so we didn't buy anything else. Fresh as can be.

This market is in a sketchy neighborhood so don’t walk here. Lots of beautiful meat and produce. We walked around with a crying baby and stuck out like a sore thumb. Never felt unsafe within the market but wouldn’t explore the neighborhood. Tight little corners and walkways makes it had with a stroller, FYI.

I´ll start by saying that this is not for everyone. I come here on average once a month, sometimes by myself and sometimes with a friend. You have to go early, the eariler you go, the better stuff you can find. The area its in is not the nicest in bogota, and there are lots of people, but once you´re in there, you are transported to a world of beautiful colors and smells. this is probably as close as you can get, without going to actual farms. Everything is fresh.... you can tell! prices of course a lot cheaper than if you buy produce at the supermarket, probably a third of the price if not more! I already have my favorite stands, like martin who sells jicama only on tuesdays along with other less common produce. Doña eugenia sells all sorts of chiles and hot peppers, and sweet potatoes! right next to the pandebono stand that we love, there is a woman (hearing impaired) who has the most extensive potato varieties, and she is so nice. The fresh herb stands are magical, you´ll go crazy with so many different types. If you go towards the back, they sell live chickens too, fresh fish, and meat (although i do confess i dont buy meat here). The flowers are amazing, you can find all sorts of beautiful flowers, the will arrange them however you want and you pay about $2 for a dozen roses (really). a few suggestions: dont wear anything fancy, dont bring anything you dont need. Bring loose change, because most things are so cheap and they usually dont have a lot fo change to give you back. I always bring my grocery cart, but if you dont have one, you can get one there.... If you like fresh markets this is the one to go. As a side note: i dont think you can compare paloquemado with other markets here in bogota. it´s one of a kind!

If you want to have a real understanding of the Bogota people, visit this farmers market. Here you would find from flowers, any kind of potatos, fresh fish and all kinds of meat to the most delicious fruits. Taste the sweet watermelon, mangostin, cherimoyas, or arepas con huevos for breakfast and lechona for lunch. Here is where the locals buy their food.

Rivals Barcelona's marketplace. I buy my Thanksgiving turkey here every year. Amazing selection a fruits and vegetables as well as spices, kitchen utensils, ornamental plants, and so much more. You can get lost in its many corridors, and the restaurants are excellent if not luxurious. Great place for orchid collectors!

Hi, are there places to have breakfast or lunch there?
Written 20 March 2018
Hi! You'll find several kiosks serving food and drinks inside the market itself. It is an opportunity to discover typical Colombian food in a friendly atmosphere. You may wish to try empanadas, arepas, chincharon, buñuelos, pan de bono etc....
