- Zise ShuPhilippines195 contributionsThe Busy SouqI visited the area before the actual FIFA started but the venue held several pre-FIFA events. And on the day I visited is one of those days. I've witnessed a full packed of happy football fans. Celebrations everywhere - dancing, singing and chanting. A lot of people enjoying the night. There's also a lot of restaurant to chose from. I will definitely come back there and discover some more interesting areas. 😄😄😄Visited November 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 7 December 2022

- Allan CDoha, Qatar89 contributionsWonderful Souq WaqifHaving lived in Qatar for 10 years, my wife and I returned during the World Cup and were amazed by the numbers of football fans providing an even more incredible and unforgettable carnival atmosphere in the Souq. Shopping here was as good as ever and the authentic Arabic restaurants and Shisha cafes are still outstanding. Highly recommend the Iraqi restaurant for the chicken and fish barbecue. A must visit place for anyone visiting Doha for the first time.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 December 2022
- Harpreet SLondon, United Kingdom89 contributionsBeautifulFor sure this is the one place you need to check out in case you are in Doha. We were apprehensive of going there and basically falling into a trap if over-expensive handicraft items. But instead we were treated to old native brick architecture, nice small shops and some things which were priced very fairly and still open for bargaining. Lovely experience of going there once during the day and once at night. The lights at night are enchanting and just admiring the architecture during the day is an amazing experience. The shops are inside within a random maze of halls which are all air conditioned. The outer streets are mostly lined with unlimited restaurants all of which seemed full at all times. The shops are selling clothes, paintings, sweets, household items and almost anything you can think of. We did a bit of shopping and bought some scarves and hand painted bowls. Only sad things was that almost anything we saw was not made in Qatar. Almost all items seemed to be from India, China and Turkey and we would have loved to find something from the country. Regardless, lovely experience and if anyone is in Doha would definitely recommend to visit for a few hours.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 January 2023

Very nice resaurants on the way. Lots of cute souveniers for good prices. - Malcolm MasterMumbai, India121 contributionsSouk for the SoulThe Souq is THE place and a must visit for every tourist. With local shops and eateries lined up, this place is as vibrant by day as eclectic by night. Despite visiting this place almost every single day, I didn't seem to get enough of it. Adjacent to the Souk is also the Falcon Souk and the Gold Souk. The souk is a walk from the corniche and the Pearl monument. Theres a plethora of restaurants that serve traditional local food out there. Do try the local tea, called Karak. There's so much to talk about the enchanting beauty of the souk but words won't do justice.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2023
- Jennifer MLusaka, Zambia27 contributionsSoul SoukWhen I travel I its the places which are true to the culture of the place which are most alluring. Big Malls , you go to one anywhere in the world, you've basically been to all. So I loved Souq Waqif! It was authentic. I bought an Abiya and a Niqab. Ate at the local restaurants. Bought Arabian perfume and bargained on a lot of other stuff. I went back three times in my one week stay in Doha!Visited February 2023Written 22 February 2023

Souq Waqif in Doha is a delightful blend of tradition and modernity. The marketplace's narrow alleys, vibrant atmosphere, and diverse offerings make it a must-visit destination. It is more than a marketplace; it's a living testament to Doha's cultural heritage.

Souq Waqif is like stepping into a magical world. The buildings are beautifully designed with warm lights, giving it a cozy feel. As you wander through the narrow paths, you'll find lots of shops selling everything from spices and fabrics to cool handmade stuff. The air is filled with amazing smells, especially from the spices – it's a real treat for your senses.

The real souqs but a real maze of countless small corridors where people walk on top of each other. Definitely to be avoided on weekends.

Lovely place to wander through in the evening and soak up the atmosphere. Lots of places to eat and things to look at even if you don't want to buy anything. We particularly loved stumbling across the camel pens.

Souq Waqif is a haven for those seeking authentic Qatari handicrafts. From handwoven textiles and intricate jewelry to traditional pottery and artisanal woodwork, the souq's stalls overflow with treasures waiting to be discovered. Bargaining is an integral part of the souq experience, so don't be afraid to haggle with the vendors to get the best deal.

Closed Friday for prayer and doesn’t open until 4 pm. Hire a guide to help you see the key stalls and try the local food. Very similar to other souks in the area of the world.

I’m due to fly via Doha in a few weeks with a 15hour layover and wanted to see Souq Waqif but am not sure if there’s any changes to regulations on going outside the airport during covid?
Any information on general covid restrictions there would be helpful too

Ignore out of date visa advice. We were UK and Indonesia passport holders and we just walked out the airport, all you need is a negative covid test which you can buy in the airport and get a taxi downtown for about $20.

there dozens of restaurants in the souk, also several hotels. We stayed in the AL Najada Doha Hotel by Tivoli which is just 5 minutes walking away from the souk. Here you get breakfast for sure.

I have a day in Doha and I want to go to the Souq Waqif.
I arrive early morning and leave middle of the night.
What's the best way of getting from the airport. And back I guess?
Should I go anywhere else? All recommends greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Metro is easy from the airport and uber us very reasonable. Metro cost per trip is 2 qatari riyal. Depending on how long ur layover is u can go the mall of Qatar as well. Buy a day pass on the metro for 6 qatari riyal and u can travel the metro the whole day.

I would like to purchase a handmade rug from the markets and wondered if anyone has had an experience shipping back to Australia? As my luggage limit is 30kg I would like to shop and have my purchases shipped home. Who will ship home for me and what are the approximate costs per kilo? Approximately how much would a 3m x 3m rug weigh?

Not knowing the kind of rug you may ways, but souq waqif isn't known for its authentic rugs. They are just the cheap kind. So in principle you may want to consider buying and shipping. If you are looking for something authentic google other rug shops

Hi there,Could anyone give me advice on dress code for European women on Katara beach.Whats the ruling on swimwear ? Thanks
Olga W
San Francisco, CA304 contributions
Hello,
There has been a recent change in policy for women and swimwear. No bikini in public, hotel pools will allow bikinis, but always ask first. For public swimming, women must cover shoulders (wear a T-shirt) and thighs to knees. Also, if it is a family beach area, singles are not allowed, only a family.
