Probably the best part of Muscat city. The place has old world charm. The view of the harbour is amazing particularly at night. Nearby is Muttrah souq and Muttrah Fort. One csn walk up to riyam park and kalbuh park.

No visit to Muscat is complete without a walk along the corniche. Flat and easy walking.Although there was a few areas where it was breaking up.
Lovely covered areas along the way to sit and watch the world go by, whilst sheltering from the sun.
An easy walk if you are here on a cruise. A walk passed the fish & Vegetable market, keep on going. Walk as far as you like then cross over and visit the Souq on the way back.

The Muscat Corniche is 3 km long. It follows the seaside from the fishmarket at Mutrah to a bit beyond Al Riyam park in the direction of Old Muscat. A highway is located right parallel to it, but does not disrupt quiet and peace too much, as most of the way the space is quite wide.
The most interesting part of the Corniche is at Mutrah, as there are some historic buildings near the souk and generally this area is more lively with a view on the port basin with different kind of boats. Old forts can also be seen on the landside.
Great for a walk especially during winter.

We had an early dinner not far from Muttrah Souk, wondered in and enjoyed the atmosphere, but we not quite ready to go back to our lodgings just yet so we decided to take a walk along the Corniche, the sun was going down and it was cool enough to do so.
We walked all the way to the palace in old muscat, the watch towers along the way are beautifully lit, and it was flat and well paved all the way there.
the area around the palace is quiet, almost deserted, it was dark when we arrived and we only saw gardners and guards, but it was very pretty, and the palace is very impressive, its also lovely to go for a walk, as you might find you spend most of your time in air conditioned cars/hotels/by the pool.
Be aware the its unlikely you'll be able to hail a taxi at night near the palace and we diddn't pass any shops or cafe's so would have got a bit thirsty if we hadn't packed water.

Its a lovely waterfront and stretches for almost 2 km. Good for joggers or for an evening stroll. There are some benches in case you want to sit and relax. The dhow cruises are also there and one can get a view of Sultan's ship docked nearby. Its one of the favourite amongst tourists and really worth taking snaps.

Corniche stretches for about three kilometers along the harbour. You can find pristine gardens and fountains along this stretch. At the northern end of the Cornish there is a fish market and the dhow harbour, where the dhows anchor to unload the catches of the day. It is a busy place with all fishing dhows returning for business. Next to the fish market is the fruits and vegetable market, where the prices are much lower compared to the supermarket, provided you know the art of bargaining.
Along the Corniche is the Souk, which is a must visit for the visitors. Muttrah souk is a traditional market, which sells ancient and traditional items.

it isn't the most stimulating as it does lack atmosphere. It is well maintained and not many people using it. The shops and restaurants lining corniche across the road are not ones you want to sit and watch the world go by. However, if you want a nice calm walk and take in the coastal air then it's fine.
TIP:
- Go late evening when the temperature is cooler and you can also enjoy the sunset.
- Visit the Fort nearby and you have a much better vantage point to see the coast and surrounding town.

Not much here except the souk and a few mediocre restaurants. Not a particularly stunning view. Not an area to stay in but maybe worth a quick trip to see.

We used free hotel shuttle to reach Muttrah but there are bus services from Muscat and plenty of taxis in Muttrah if you need to get back from there. Corniche is a pleasant stroll and a good way to appreciate the architecture of Muttrah and see the Sultan's yacht, plus fill out time before/after visiting the souk. I'd suggest looking on trip advisor before making trip if you want to locate good cafes etc.

Can. You walk from cruise terminal to corniche or is. Taxi necessary and is it expensive to get there

Hi S, the walk is about 3 kms through what was the container port until last year. Not pretty. Seems to me there are shuttle buses all the time from the cruise ships down onto the Corniche. Drop off point is where the old souk opens onto the Corniche. At that spot there are abundant taxis plus the big bus hop on hop off service. See my review of Old Muttrah Souk for time to visit & what else to do. PS.. taxi's in Oman have no meter and haggling is essential before you get in. Look for a 40% discount on initial asking price.
