You can still get a sense what this place was like 100 years ago, even 40 years ago. Despite the destructive proliferation of shopping malls, many locals still shop here for provisions, so it is certainly still authentic. There are few Omani's behind the counter these days. To sustain this unique asset the City needs to keep a mix of... More

Muttrah Souk is located off the Corniche so easy to find. It is an attractive maze of lanes with shops selling all sorts of curios, scarves, pashminas etc. It has a pleasant, busy atmosphere. If you want to buy incense, this is the place. They are prepared to haggle. I bought a nice cashmere scarf at a sensible price. They... More

Very good collection of curios. Lots of shops and is like a maze to walk through. Shop keepers are friendly and willing to haggle. Got some good deals on the light shades.

If you do only a few things make this one of them. Souk is market and this is an old one and you could easily spend an entire day wandering around here. I go every trip just for the smells and sights of all the people and I assure you it will take your breath away time and again. This... More

The old souk in Muscat is located indoors, right off the Corniche (waterfront) so it's easy to add a walk along the waterfront to the same agenda. If you've never seen a souk (an Arab market or marketplace; a bazaar) before, you will probably like this one: it's clean and safe for older people or kids, the shop owners are... More

Situated infront of the water side. Typical market for souvenirs and gold jewelries. Many places to eat and drink. You can drop by other touristic places nearby.

The souk was great with lots of Omani traditional goods for sale. The sunset walk along the Muttrah corniche is beautiful. Possible to have some decent food in the restaurants outside of the souk facing the corniche.

The usual smell of frankincense prevails as you work through the jostling of the visitors bargaining with the shopkeepers. Nothing changes and although very interesting first visit to see what is for sale, you have to be very careful about quality et al, let alone the price, e.g. pashminas do not come for 5 Rials. But the fun is in... More

This is a very real and authentic souk. The main entrance, opposite the harbour belies its interior. As you first enter the Souk the passageway is quite wide with stores. As you go further in you are in tiny passages, barely enough room to walk single file. It's colourful, enigmatic, fascinating. We saw all manner of Omani goods and bought... More
