Herod built this tomb for himself. He was instrumental in the building of many structures, and gthi is his greatest. Only recently was his actual grave found in the tomb.

Though we know Herod was a madman, he certainly had some amazing sites built in the Holy Land. Herodium was supposedly going to be his place of burial--hence the enormity of the structures that still stand today. On some days you can go down inside...More

This is the palace Herod built by moving the dirt from one mountain to the top of another ("If you have the faith of a mustard seed..."). Right there that makes it amazing to see, knowing that Jesus saw and referred to it. Herod's tomb...More

This looks really marvelous. Hill is mined through and you can crave in caves and finds old cisterns and so. There is rails and stairs in caves, so its safe. Must see!

You have a very good view of surrounding areas. On a clear day, you can even see the dead sea and Jordan from here. How it is built is amazing. Make sure you read up before you start climing up.

Herodium (Herodion) National Park ruins are still under excavation. We were left fascinated by the discoveries and the energetic history of Herod's death.

Beautiful site. I have been to Israel many times and have never driven here before. The drive was from Gush Etzion and was a bit scary. Took the road home through Har Homa, a better option. There was another group on site that was generous...More
