Bab el Rahmeh or Golden gate or Shaar Harahamim ... what ever religion your belong to this is THE GATE OF MERCY ... all walled up now, was the only gate from where you can access the Al-Aqsa complex directly (No homes around), the best view of it is from Mount Olive during day.

Take a walk past all the gates of Jerusalem. A wonderful way to experience the walled city from the outside. Bring water, no shopping, no food unless you go inside a gate to one of the living quarters for a break.

This gate has particular meaning for Christians as a gate through which Jesus Christ will return. Jews expect the Messiah to come through the Golden Gate. The gate is arguably the most magnificent in its appearance of all Jerusalem gates. It was sealed by Muslims in 810 and has an appearance of a wall at present time. Visitors to the... More

It is so easy to overlook this huge gate sealed by the Muslims, but anyone who has any knowledge of the Lord Jesus is aware that it is through this gate that He will re-enter Jerusalem upon his return to this earth. Go to the Mount of Olives; go to the Garden of Gethsemane where it all took place; and... More

The prophetic Gate through which Christ will enter Jerusalem upon His Second Coming. Sealed by the Muslims in a symbolic attempt to block the inevitable, viewing the Gate is an emotional experience. Truly. You can get different views: from atop of the Mount of Olives, from the Garden of Gethsemane, and from atop the Temple Mount. Our photos show all... More

To an ordinary traveler, there is nothing much to see other than the massive Mt of Olives and Kidron valley facing it. The gates are sealed, true to what the prophet Ezekiel wrote: Ezekiel 44 2: "This gate shall be shut, it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter in by it; because the LORD, the God of... More

I think you can make an appointment to go up to the gate, but otherwise, there is not much to see outside of quick pic.

In Jewish tradition, this is the gate through which the Anointed One (Messiah) will enter Jerusalem. We arrived at the Garden of Gethsemene in the late afternoon, and since it was already getting dark, we had beautiful views of the Golden Gate, bathed in a beautiful golden glow from the lights.
