The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, or the Church of the Resurrection by Eastern Christians, is a church within the Christian Quarter of the walled Old City of Jerusalem. It is a few steps away from the Muristan.

The site is venerated as Golgotha (the Hill of Calvary), where Jesus was crucified, and is said also to contain the place where Jesus was buried (the Sepulchre). A trend among visitors to the spot (standing outside the Church) is to applaud loudly during the ringing of bells. This is to recognize the unique beauty of the Church and its unique history.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre often has long queues, but when we visited in December,we were able to entry without any delay. The church felt like a human beehive, wall to wall with pilgrims and tourists. It has no natural lighting and the only source of light comes from hundreds of candles lit by the faithful. Visibility is poor and the floor... More

I have visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre during my tour to Jerusalem from Cairo it was a very intensive tour and we managed to see a lot in one day. But if you plan the tour to the holy places of Jerusalem it's better to dedicate a whole day to it. The church – a huge draw for... More

You must go into th church of the holy sepulchre to access this site. This is Mage is the place that Jesus was laid on after he came down from the cross. It is rubbed daily with oil, it smells beautiful when you touch it.

At 5 AM the crowds are much lesser but basically any other time be prepared to stand patiently in a long line. A lot of pilgrims use this time for prayer or reading but this waiting time is for me the only minus of this otherwise almost unreal fantastic place. For Christians this place has a dimension of its own.

I think only in morning is less crowded, because in the evening, you will see a long line to enter inside. We stayed around 20 minutes, around 10 AM, but in evening, when we return to Church of the Holy Sepulchre, was so many people in line, that we didn t want to enter again.

Christ's Tomb is a must see while visiting Jerusalem. The tomb itself is undergoing much needed rehab. There is no fee to enter. I visited during low season so there was virtually no line, but I hear the line can be hours long in the summer.

I'm not sure what you can say to 'review' this except to just state the obvious. it is the tomb of Jesus Christ, there is no more holy place on earth for me and many others. it is a privilege, a wonder, a joy to have been here. it is beautiful but just like the Church of the Holy Sepulchre,... If basilicas, gilt churches and shrines are your thing then by all means, visit this place. I really hated it. It felt pagan and idolatrous.
