To understand that this place is actually a mosque 364 days a year was something I found interesting. If you're just looking at it, you'll never be able to appreciate the intricacies. Make sure you have a guide explaining things to you. Totally worth it.

It was a very lovely sight and I was glad to pay for the entrance the 5 sheckels which is nothing to see this amazing place. My tour guide was not Christian and it was a bit more challenging to enjoy the place because of all the "the story says" and "take this with a grain of salt" comments; on... More

When you visit this 12 century Chapel, in your imagination try to remove a dome and octagonal drum from outside, and a mihrab from inside , and you will probably see the crusaders structure. 5 shekels for a ticket to see what is left from 3 Christian Churches.

A good way to see the many churches and other monuments on the Mount of Olives is to take a taxi from the old city, e.g. Lion's gate, to the Chapel of the Ascension which is on the highest point, and then walk down. We paid a fixed fare of 20 Shekels (about 5 euros). The chapel itself really is... More

A beautiful little gem tucked away on the top of Mount Olives, worth a visit if only due to the beautiful building. Built in AD 380 and rebuilt by the crusaders in the 12th Century to commemorate the place of Jesus' ascension. The stone in the chapel is where the footprint of Christ was left. There was a small entry... More

Very special place that you will find walking the hill over Olive Mount. Simple but very special. It really deserves a visit. The only strange thing was a guy selling tickets to go inside - 5 NIS. In fact, there is a picture of him. You should check it out. You can take the bus 275 back to Damascus Gate.... More

For a small fee you can see this little chapel which is said to be the last place Jesus touched earth before ascending. We were the only ones there but it is a nice starting point to tour the Mount of Olives.

Not actually a church, more of a shrine that it is believed contains a rock that Jesus's foot stepped upon before ascending into heaven. Visit this site while your in the area viewing Mount of Olives and The church of Pater Noster. This is a brief visit stop. Cost: 5NIS ($1.30USD)

The fee that others are complaining about is fairly recent and only 5 NIS (around $1.25). It is not technically a church but a chapel as after the Crusaders lost Jerusalem to Saladin in 1187, a mosque was built next to the chapel which survived due to the reverence Muslims had for Christianity at the time. It is worth visiting... More
