These houses were underground for hundreds of years until excavations began so they are remarkably well preserved. This is a don't miss opportunity. The frescoes alone are worth it, but so is seeing the way the homes were laid out. Here you can get a real sense of how people lived in the ancient world. Be warned, there is a... More

This is part of Ephesus site at extra cost (20 lire). Need to climb up terraces and walk down. Excavated high status houses with original mosaic floors and frescoes on walls. Large area of six original houses, some excavation still going on. All covered so shaded and protected from rare rain showers. A must for ancient history lovers.

The terrace houses which are within the area of Ephesus, require a separate entrance fee and are cordoned off. The art work is impressive, but most of all you are out of the sun.

It was kind of a pricey add on and does require a lot of stairs (but easy stairs, not narrow or steep). They are still working in this area and with a good guide we learned a lot and it was amazing how advanced they were back then or how little we have come. Very pretty tile work throughout. This... Though it costs extra to visit Terraced houses in Ephesus, it is worth the visit because of we get an idea about layout of each part of the house. With the original paintings still in intact, visiting terraced houses is like journey back in time and good history lesson on how people lived.

Our second visit to Ephesus but the first time inside The Terrace Houses and we were absolutely amazed by the amount there is to see; the room layouts, decoration, even paintings on the walls. It gives such a good picture of how these people lived.

Make sure to make time to see this when exploring the larger site. It will take around 30 minutes to wander and see each of the uncovered homes.

This is an extra ticket, and well worth it. I had the headset, not part of an organized tour. It was an excellent way to wander through the space, taking time in each area.

Made a promise when they started to uncover these houses, come back and we were not disappointed. The mosaic's are outstanding as is the rest. Brilliant work. You get a real feel of how of these people actually lived. A definite must if you do go to Ephesus.

The mosaic tiles are so intricate in the terrace houses they look like carpets lying on the floor! This is an extra charge exhibit inside Ephesus but well with it.
