Good Mosque for Quick Visit

The Isabey mosque is about a 5 minute walk from Basilica of St. John. It is an ancient mosque like fifty others in Turkey. We spent about 10 minutes looking it over.

The Mosque is a welcoming and interesting place to visit. It is best have a guide to explain the background and Muslim traditions, but that is not essential. The size and layout of the Mosque is interesting and overall this makes for a good visit.

A small mosque dating to the 14th century, and partly restored. The courtyard is a perfect place away from crowds and tourist tat, but when you go inside there is an air of tranquility, whatever your religion. The building is simply decorated, which appeal to me, with carvings in the courtyard that are really photogenic. However, tour buses decend and... More

The Imam greeted us and gave us information about the mosque. It is the oldest in Turkey and not far from the basilica of St John. It is a very peaceful place to visit and you are allowed to take pictures inside and out.

Quiet and serene location. Impressive to see. A mosque built in a unique style. Try to get a book with a good explanation of this mosque, or find a guide that really knows the history and is able to make history come alive. You can enter the mosque free of charge, but please be respectful of the sacred meaning and... More

If you're close by, do stop here and visit the mosque! The garden is enchanting and there are so many beautiful remnants of history here - even if you decide against going into the mosque itself (if you want to enter, remember to cover up your shoulders and legs! Your head should also be covered, if you're a woman. We... More

Beautiful Mosque with nice architecture and a cool story. Worth a visit when you are in Selcuk. Come in the morning before crowded. Love the store around the corner as well.

One of the nice things about staying in Selcuk is that many sites, excepting Ephesus, are an easy stroll from most everywhere else in town. We strolled down to the Isa Bey late one afternoon, doned scarfs and spent a few minutes inside. The more interesting sites were outside in the courtyard where many interesting architectural features can be seen.... More

This is a nice mosque, recently renovated with more renovations to come. A warm gentleman approached us and said my wife was sufficiently modestly dressed and didn't need to cover more. He said he was the imam, showed us a picture of him in his robes, and told us a little about the mosque. At one point, I turned to... More
