The area
Neighbourhood: Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.

We took a walk along the pier. There were a lot of fishermen. Good views of the European side of Istanbul. Otherwise, nothing so special here.

Nice ferry with lots of connections. Easy connections. Beautiful boardwalk. Lots of places to eat and drink. A little touristy.

Short (and cheap - c10 lira) ferry ride from the European side, a good opportunity to get some photos in and touch your feet on the Asian side. The adjoining waterfront area is very nicely done with a few decent cafes available.

Not much else to see on this side but worth the trip over for an hour or two if you have time.

Ferry terminal between two continents. Many coastal transferring boats and ferry all the way. A charming picture of people up and down. Very crowded and cozy area all the year around.
Many highlights opposite the coastal area like Mihrimeh Sultan Camii. Not far from public transport Marmaray. A must visit area for all Istanbul visitors.

Uskudar Pier or Uskudar Ferry Terminal connects Uskudar with Besiktas, Kabatas, Eminonu and Karakoy on the European side and Kadikoy on the Asian side.

Other than a functioning ferry terminal, it is a picturesque location with the 15 July Martyrs bridge, Mihrimah Sultan Camii, Yeni Valide Camii and Pasa Limani boulevard in the background. A must stop for visitors to Uskudar even if you reach here via other transportation mode.

This is where your ferry to Asian side of Istanbul will land. Ensure you have your pass handy in case of any ongoing checks. If you are travelling out, ensure to have your HES code ready.

Uskudar pier is more crowded than Ortakoy or Kadikoy piers but less crowded than Eminonu pier. It's a very small pier with place to dock a single ferry at a time. I would highly recommend taking a ferry from Eminonu to Uskudar and checkout this small suburb of Istanbul. If you are keen you can also take a bus to go to Camlica mosque or Camlica hill from here. The frequency of ferry from Eminonu to Uskudar is 15-20 minutes and same while coming back from Uskudar.

Very nice area, good for a short walk by the sea. It gives you the opportunity to see the old side of istanbul across the sea. Nice restaurants and coffee shops near by. Can be easily reached from the center of uskudar.
