This little castle along the Bosphorus is right bt-y the side of Goksu River, one of the city's most popular picnic areas for hundreds of years. The spot is still a favorite of Istanbul residents to start a relaxing weekend stroll.

Anadolu Hisari is a fishing village within Istanbul. It lies just south of the second Bosphorus bridge . The village sits on a small river that flows into the Bosphorus which is lined with small cafes and restaurants serving simple fare, freshly caught grilled fish, fried potatoes and salads. There is plenty to watch as people potter around in the moored fishing and pleasure boats. The castle is a ruin and takes only a few minutes to view, but cross the river, turn right and walk 200 metres to visit Küçüksu Kasrı, a hunting lodge on the Bosphorus shore built by Sultan AbdulMecid in the middle of the 19th century. Exquisite in detail it is open every day except Mondays and Thursdays.
To get to Anadolu Hisari take a ferry to Uskudar and then hop on a number 15 (to BEYKOZ) bus from in front of the mosque opposite the ferry terminal for the 30 minute (or so!) journey up the Asian shore of the Bosphorus, passing the summer palace of Baylerbeyi on the way.

Anadolu Hisarı is not as large or impressive as Rumeli Hisarı across the Bosphorus, and you can only look in through the gates for now though there are plans to restore it and open it to visitors. But it's an interesting little fort, and the oldest Ottoman structure in Istanbul. The sleepy little neighborhood around it is charming, not at all touristy, and modest in comparison with, say, Arnavutköy, with lots of old wooden houses, fountains that still work, and lots of very friendly dogs. ;) Go in Kızılserçe street along the Göksu River just before the fort, and you'll find a couple of nice restaurants and cafes along the shore. Walk farther and you'll find an old Ottoman graveyard with interesting stones.
There is also a fish restaurant at the base of the fort.
Right across the small Göksu river from the fort is the Küçüksu Mansion which is open to the public.
If you like exploring old neighborhoods, then Kanlıca, about 5 minutes north by bus, or Kandilli to the south, are also very nice. Also if you time it right, you can catch a boat from Anadoluhisarı across the Bosphorus to Emirgan and the Sakıp Sabancı Museum.

Saw this whilst taking a short Bosphorus river cruise, quite small compared to its counterpart on the other side and you can't quite get all its detail.

Seen from the Bosphorus on a boat trip, Anadolu Hisarı is most picturesque together with the Beykoz waterside mansions. It is allegedly the oldest Ottoman building still existing in Istanbul. Its brother is Rumeli Hisarı on the European shore.

Everytime i spend my time at Rumeli Hisari(Rumeli Fortress), i saw small fortress in front of Rumeli, at another side of Bosfor, at Anatolia part of Istanbul. I decided to visit this fortress, and i took bus, what go to Beykoz from Uskudar. My way took 25 minutes, and i see Anadolu Hisari very close. Small but very nice fortress!Towers looks perfectly, walls too.Of course, Rumeli fortress is biggest, more grandiose, but i falled in love to Anadolu Hisari. You can see my pictures from there.

Located on the Asian side, Anadolu Hisari Fort is a beautiful district in Bosphorus with a rich history. It may seem far from the old city and Sultanahmet area, but actually it is easily accessible by boat from the European side. Surrounded by many cafes and restaurants, Anadolu Hisari Fort is by far one of the best spots to enjoy the view of one and only Bosphorus.

This fort is along the Bosphorus, right across the bigger and much more magnificent Rumeli Hisar fortress built by Mehmet the Conquerer ( Fatih Sultan Mehmet). This smaller fort was built in 1395 bu Yildirim Beyazit but was extended by Fatlh also.
The neighborhood is very nice and quiet. There is a river called Goksu, reaching the Bosphorus at this point and there are nice restaurants and cafes by the river and also by the sea.
This place can be easily reached by bus or taxi from Uskudar or by taking a ferry from Arnavutkoy or Bebek. Each ferry stop takes only 5 minutes and this is a very convenient way to reach Anadoluhisari, Kandilli or Kanlica from the European side. Use Sehir Hatlari Saatleri web site to see the timetable.
I would recommend Big Chefs by the sea and river, Marine by the river for a good meal. Avoid weekends though.
