My fiance and I had the most wonderful time at the Turkish Tile painting class this past weekend. We learned a lot about the history and art of Turkish tile and did our beginner's best to honor the tradition. Alp and Selin were generous and patient hosts and teachers, and we hope to get another chance to take a class... More

I would definitely recommend this to anyone, if time and money affords. I visited Les Arts Turcs at the start of November 2015, looking to experience aspects of Turkey I hadn't before, as a tourist and an art lover. The studio was super easy to get to. It's very close to Sultanahmet tram stop and opposite Aya Sophia. On arrival,... More

What a great way to spend an afternoon in Istanbul. I had already visited most of the tourist attractions and decided to take this class as an alternative afternoon activity. It's centrally located in Sultanamet, very close to the tram stop and easy to find. When I arrived the entire staff was so welcoming. It kind of felt like I... More

Great find. Something different to the usual tourist attractions. Small workshop with everything ready for our prebooked class.even for a untalented novice this was a great morning. Excellent help and step by step guidance to produce a memorable souvenir. Hand painted ceramic tile. You choose the stencil and colours. Warm and welcoming husband and wife team. A delight to meet... If you're looking for a change from the usual tourist attractions and all the shopping, you should definitely come here! I booked a class for myself and two other people, and it was one of my favourite activities here in Turkey. The family working there are very nice and helpful, they explained to us very well how to do everything.... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
