This is the place that has most of the historic sights. Istanbul is a lovely place to visit. With friendly locals the sultanahmet district walk was extremely entertaining. Lovely sites and a wonderful walk.

From Hagia sophia to Topkapi Palace, from cafes to restaurants, the center of attraction in Istanbul. You have to go to here. You cannot say you were in Istanbul if you didn't go to sultanahmet. A must visit place

A beautiful area containing many of the major landmark sites and embassies, chic hotels, restaurants and waterfront walkway which was reclaimed beyond the ancient city walls.

If you're going to the Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque, you will wander through this district. Like any big city, lots of tourists, but beautiful sights and rich history.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
