We had booked the boat tour with Bosphorus Through Headphones (kaktüs turizm) for May 10, 2013, two weeks prior to our trip to Istanbul. On May 07 10:00 p.m., we received an e-mail cancellation, because the minimum number of passengers would not have been met. We called them and tried to move our booking to May 11, when we learned... Not only does this relaxing Bosphorous ride give you a gorgeous view of Istanbul's both Europe and Asian sides it also provides an indepth look into the rich history of the city. Orhan, the tour guide, is incredibly knowledgeable of the many cultures that have called it home plus he is hilarious. The ride also offers what Orhan calls "kodak... More

You MUST experience the Bosphorous ferry ride while in Istanbul! It's the only city in the world that served as capital to 3 world empires: the Roman, the Byzantine, and the Ottoman Turks. You cross from Europe to Asia & back again- all the while taking in the city's steep history and absolutely breath taking views of palaces, mosques, bridges,... More

Orhan is an amazing historian. Many folks think history is boring but when you go to Turkey you realize how many cultures made its impact on the country. The early settlements, Neolithic cultures, Assyrians, Hittites, Romans..I know I am not including all the layers of history. Orhan will teach you all that and more in a relaxed and friendly environment.... More

The Bosphorus is breathtaking especially by boat. There is so much to see, sites to be photographed, and much to learn. How to do it all? Treat yourself to your own personal tour guide, " Bosphorus Through Headphones". What an ingenious idea to be able to know where you are, what you are seeing and to stroll around the deck,... More

If you're in Istanbul, cruising on the Bosphorus is a must. I had taken a guided cruise on the Bosphorus before; the wind can be strong and you can't hear the guide speak. Paying attention to the guide means you can't look around as freely, and there is not much time to take photos if you also want to listen... More

Staying in Sisli

Neighbourhood Profile
Sisli
For much of Istanbul’s history, Sisli and the area just north of Taksim Square were open countryside used mostly as hunting grounds. These days, Sisli and its chic streets are considered the very heart of contemporary Istanbuli life, where an epicenter of fashion and a thriving business district meet to create an expressly “downtown” feel. Though largely a residential neighborhood, luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and upscale shops abound with many of them situated inside or nearby Cevahir Istanbul, the biggest shopping mall in Europe and second biggest urban shopping mall in the world. Shopaholics and fashionistas travel from near and far to browse the area's mix of major global brand items and creations by popular Turkish designers.
