Neighbourhood: Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighbourhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.

We went to Istanbul during Bayram/Eid, which is the celebration at the end of Ramadan and I think the whole of Turkey was there! It was absolutely jam packed but there was so much to see and do and we felt 100% safe the whole time. It’s like the Times Square of Turkey, times 10!

It was a new experience for us not to queue for attractions and transportation and we quickly learned to muscle in with the locals. Just push!

You could easily spend far longer than the 5 days we spent in Istanbul, much of it centered around Eminonu Square, and not see everything. Prepare for colors, sounds, and sights!

As we were part of this walking tour, after walking through so many districts, we stumbled through this square which is located near the ferries and after having crossed the Galatea bridge. It’s a nice area to watch the world go by..But not a necessity to see…

Located next to the ferries and the Yeni Camii, you arrive there after having crossed Galata bridge. At the end of the afternoon and in the evning, it is plenty of life with people going to ferries and to other directions.

Nice but a bit crowded square with dominant mosque. There are also restaurants, entry to one of big market (don't be afraid to negotiate) and docks with sightseeing boats.

After visiting Kadikoy, I stopped here and enjoyed the ambience. There are places to shop at such as the Spice Market, ferries to take at the pier, sit down and enjoy the fountain, buses and trams to travel with, etc.

Very busy here. Police Officers are on hand to direct traffic and answer questions from tourists like me.

it's crowded there and you can buy semit, balik ekmek (delicious). Also ride a ferry.
Ferry ride is about 2 hrs. So if you wanna see the sea during the dau and night, get a ferry 1 hour before sunset. In this way you'll be lucky to see the sea while the day is bright and dark with bridge lights. Get some bread/cemit so that you can give it to birds while you are on the ferry. It's amazing experience. They'll run after the ferry for the bread. Try it for sure.
