A truly heart lifting experience! With a world that seems to be going a little bit gaga at the moment, this tour and Small Projects Istanbul will help restore your hope in humanity. The volunteers are so passionate about restoring some normality back in to these young Syrian families lives and the children are so happy! The home cooked meal... More

Such an amazing tour. Our guide was very friendly and a wealth of Knowledge of the area. Me and my friend were the only two on the tour and by the end it felt like we were just hanging out with an old friend. I have been to Istanbul twice before this trip but I learnt so much this time.... More

Visiting a city, it is not enough to see the famous attractions and stop right there, thus, it is very important to see how locals live and dining with a Turkish family is one way to do it! The tour Urban Adventures organised was great and our tour guide, Ekrem, was very friendly, the hostess as well, Seray Hanım welcomed... More

Tolga gave us a magnificent walking tour of Old Town Istanbul. Such a fascinating layered city - you are in safe hands, very informative, it will make you fall in love with Turkey and set you up for an amazing trip.

Great experience. Got the chance to travel in tram and walk through some streets that otherwise a tourist wont visit. The local market full of fruits and vegetables was really interesting. The tour guide Ekrem was very knowledgeable and was explaining everything along the way from everyday life to history. I highly recommend the Olive Tree activity, you will have... More

I did a few intrepid urban adventures tours together, and found they complement each other well giving a great snapshot. All the tours were great, with kind and very knowledgable guides who understand the importance of local knowledge and getting off the tourist trail! I would recommend the olive tree tour, home cooked Istanbul and the picnic on two continents... More

The four hour 'Istanbul Uncovered' walking tour was inspiring. Like some other recent visitors, I was lucky enough to have a guide, Salih, to myself. He was informed, engaging, intelligent and great company. Couldn't have been better.

Thanks Sean, one of the great things about visiting Istanbul at the moment is that you get to the city with a local and often on your own or just one or two others. Our Guaranteed departures are something we are proud of. Thanks from Salih and the team at Istanbul Urban Adventures. More

I was lucky enough to have a guide all to myself on a sunny spring day to help me explore the City a little further afield beyond the Hippodrome and the Grand Bazaar (wonderful as they are). Got to see the book bazaar, the neighbourhood of the university, the spectacular Great Mosque, the tomb of Sinan and the exquisite Rustem... More

I had a great time with Tolga Kinas, he was very helpful and gave me lots of tips about what to see and do in the areas of Istanbul that I had not already been to. I was the only person on the tour so could choose what I wanted and as I had already been in Istanbul for 3... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
