We stayed overlooking the Bosphorous Strait. Every morning we use to see the sunrises and the ships go through. It was a wonderful experience.

Only take the trip in Good weather. During rain the upper deck windows are covered with wind lashed water from which photography is very poor. On some boats the lower deck windows are clear and protected but do not offer such good views. Do not take these trips in the rain

We took a cruise on the Bosphorus Strait; we went to the upper deck and had a 360 degree full view of the Strait and the buildings on both sides; w enjoyed the breeze blowing towards us; we saw many landmarks eg expensive hotels, famous restaurants, government buildings etc

Only way to really appreciate this unique historical city is to go on Bosporus. The best is to do it in spring or summer, but it is nice in winter also. We were motivated by rain also. If you do not have time take short tour starting from near Galata bridge. I do recommend longer one going to old Ottoman... More

One of the most picturesque view in the world. The number of antique castles on the shores, resorts, villas, gardens, fortresses. Fresh air. The sounds of the seagulls, light breath. Unforgettable

Your visit to Istanbul would not be complete with a boat ride on the Bosporus Strait. Its about 1.5hrs journey and we just took the 12lira ride on a boat. No booking required, we just walk up to a big boat parked just opposite of the spice market. There were several people walking up to us trying to sell rides... More

A boat tour is the best way to see the strait, some of the most expensive homes in the world are located here, and if you have a knowledge guide, it can be an interesting history lesson. Plan for about 2 hours, ours was during the day but a night tour would have been exciting but more difficult for photography.

Staying in Besiktas

Neighbourhood Profile
Besiktas
In Besiktas, skyscrapers compete with palaces for space in an upscale vista replete with hilly green parkland filling in the margins. Step into this rather wealthy neighbourhood and discover a rich mix of opportunities to shop, dine, and be entertained. For folks in search of urban buzz, not to mention a constant reminder of just how important Istanbul’s waterways are to its rich history, there's the frenetic Besiktas ferry terminal or the city’s most vibrant fish market to explore. For a timeout of metropolitan proportions, head to the bucolic Yildiz Park or the chic Bosphorus-side fishing village of Ortakoy. Attractions such as the grandiose Dolmabahce Palace and a bevy of other stately residences await admiration. To be sure, this large and not overly touristy swath of Istanbul yields plenty of pleasure for all.
