It isn’t just a shop- our group did a pilov cooking course, there was live music and traditional dancing (with an adorable guide that spoke great English and tried his best at everything) we painted ceramic pomegranates and got to keep them! The space is also beautiful and we all had a fantastic time

Amazonist cultural experience with spiritual owner Lola and the hostess Jelena. They keep Uzbek traditions alive, with their warm and kind service. You can enjoy Uzbek folk dance show, amazing pilaf masterclass or just drink the tea and relax

I read about this place in the Bradt guide to Uzbekistan and made a point to visit based on the concept of supporting local craftspersons (mostly women) and culture while having access to a quality selection…but the kindness and personal service of Nellie and Lola won me over and I walked out with some amazing pieces, feeling supported in my treasure-hunting but never pushed or rushed. Nice that the store takes credit cards and USD too, so I didn’t have to worry about having too few somms for all my new treasures. The store may be off the beaten path but it was a chance to see the old Jewish neighborhood (no Soviet block housing) and just a $2 taxi from my hotel across town. The variety and quality is apparent as the store deals directly with its artists and even has its own workshop. Prices were higher than I expected but I’m not feeling ripped-off at all. This is a happy place.

We were brought here by our tour group operator. The staff was friendly, but the small rooms were crowded and it was difficult for instance to really see the clothing they were selling. I think if you will be traveling outside of Tashkent, you do not need to visit this store.

This place is a gem for anyone interested in Central Asian arts & crafts and culture, and well worth the trip to the slightly out of the way location. It's a cultural center, museum, gift shop, art gallery and café rolled into one. The saleswoman gave me a tour a treated me to coffee, and it was a pleasure to roam around the space. They host movie nights (Russian language), master classes, and special exhibitions. This is a place with heart.

One the one hand it is just another traditional handcraft store, on the other it has very special atmosphere of nearly European freedom and liberalism, the things which you will hardly feel on daily basis in the very still conservative and pretty totalitarian country. This is the place where you can get vitally everything from handmade clothes and traditional crafts workshops to lectures on informal Uzbek arts and shows of local rock bands. An absolute must for visiting while in Tashkent.
