The Hazrati Imam Complex is well worth a visit. There is a large open square with beautiful Islamic buildings around it. It is peaceful and contemplative - until many more tourists arrived. Go early if you can.

Really enjoyed wandering around the old city areas. However, once you have seen 4 or 5 historic Mosques and Madrasas, all the others start to look the same. Having said that it's definitely enjoyable to visit this location. Some charge admission, others do not. Some have many vendors inside so you know it's all touristy.

I recently visited Tashkent . It is a beautiful city with good heart people. City is small but neat and clean. I observed lot of tourist from India visiting Tashkent for holidays. Nightlif is hopeless except for few expensive clubs which work like mafia. These clubs mainly like Diplomate,Niagara etc. have heavy entry ticket and nothing great inside. Everything is pretty expensive. It is having well ruined expensive prostitutes which are simply useless. Do not expect good nightlife as city is very calm and peaceful at night. People who plan to visit Tashkent for only nightlife will be very disapponted.

As a Tashkent native, I think this is the most authentic and honest place in Tashkent - with real life, real people, also real food.

Old tashkent main attraction is the Chorsu bazaar ...where you can even exchange your money (USD) to local currency at amazing rates... near double to the bank rates !!! You have to bargain at the shops. The Dry Fruit market is at the other end of the bazaar ...keep asking for directions else you will miss it. Its the best buy !!! Walnuts, Pistachios and almonds are excellent quality. Appricots too are delicious. They also do an amaing gift pack for Som 6000/- which is good to get back for your family and friends. Check for local chocolates with dry fruits

We used to think that the old Muslim cities have a lot of attractions, shops and restaurants. Thus when we enter the old town in Tashkent we may be slightly disappointed. But this is how the old cities in Central Asia were looking a few hundreds years ago. It s worth to see the specific architecture - houses without windows on the street, clay walls, narrow streets, etc.

My B &B was located in old Tashkent, near the Chorsu Market, so it was easily possible to walk around some old neighborhoods. Not picturesque as much as poor and a little bit awful. Uzbekistan government tries hard to cover up and pretend there are no poor people in need. There are lots, and these are some of the neighborhoods they live in.
When I read the previous review about Tashkent International Airport, I almost fell off my chair laughing. Yes Yes Yes. The very oddest airport ever, and I had just been in Ashgabat International, and thought that was way crazy. When the driver left me off, I thought he must have made a mistake, it was kinda like an alley, definitely NOT an International Airport entrance. And over the top inefficient, it took the airline personnel at least 10 minutes to check your ticket, and that was if there were no questions. And OMG, there were a lot of questions for everyone. It was the craziest I have ever seen--note, I have never traveled in Africa, maybe there is crazier, but maybe not. I was so grateful that my B&B had me get there 3 hrs.early for a 3 a.m. flight. As it was the pushing part the reviewer talked about, was all behind me, I was second in one of the 4 lines, and it took 20 minutes, and behind me the pushing was beginning. Yikes!
