Designed to resemble the headwear it is yet another of Ashgabat's amazing white marble buildings. The surrounding park is vast with many statues and pools/fountains. You would be very unlucky if you don't meet up with a wedding party as they tour the main monuments...More

All of Ashgabat is empty, the biggest, flashest white marble city with no people. When I asked why, our guide said that Turkmen people are nomadic and prefer to be in the desert away from the prying eyes of the state

Empty and odd. It is such as strange feeling to walk around a structure this large with no one around except the occasional worker in the distance. Words can not describe it.

Not sure of the purpose of the structure, it is empty and was built to celebrate independence so there it stands.Worth looking at

In this square, there are many huge statutes displaying power and might, a good representation of how this country would like you to remember it. I don't know every statute and who they are, so if you are curious and must know everything, it's better...More

Amazing over the top architecture typical of this country. Very enjoyable park to visit, its very impressive. Shows you what billions of excess dollars can build.

Shows the old Soviet approach to monuments. It is new, clean and impressive. Good view of the emptiness of the park and city.

Yes, you will drive past many monuments and this is one of them. However, architecturally they are all great

As a great man once told me, nothing rhymes with Unabhängigkeitsdenkmal and I have come to discover that he was correct in his statement. The Unabhängigkeitsdenkmal in Ashgabat is a tribute to independence for the country with nice marble grounds, huge tower and a gold...More

Quintessential example of the splendor and opulence used in erecting monuments by the nation's previous president. Set in the large Independence park including a large amount of dark / gold statues, golden statue of the former president himself plus a myriad of fountains.
