A huge space inside filled with almost nothing of interest. Some signs are in English but I gave up on the ground floor. Not of any interest to the foreign visitor unless you are happy to spend your time looking at anything put on display.

The National Museum is a must see if you have the time. There's a replica of the 90 foot reclining Buddha, found in southern Tajikistan, but to see the real one you must visit the old museum. The price of entry is quite reasonable.

Disappointing visit. Yes , plenty of interest but felt it could have been laid out better. Was in a small group and unfortunately our museum guide spoke softly and her command of English was not that good . The reclining buds was also a disappointment....More

We had an English speaking guide taking us around, and she was very well informed. They have a great collection of artifacts from different cultures and historic periods, not only from Tadjikistan, but the whole of Central Asia and Persia

Large well kept museum covering thousands of years of history of this fascinating country. The guides are helpful and informative. See the giant reclining Buddha one of the worlds largest.

This is a must see museum. It has a number of halls and the largest sleeping Buddha this side of Thailand. The staff is polite. The exhibits are properly captioned but even then you need a knowledgeable guide who can tell you about the history...More

Not much to it, and it feels a bit musty and Soviet, but some of the antiquities are fascinating, e.g. The excavated full sized Buddha. Grisly human remains also interesting, if a little macabre.

Nothing mind-bending but has the old style Soviet feel and display to it. Grand, intimidating and kind of mundane. Displays mostly in cabinets like typical old school museum would show. But interesting modern history displays from Soviet times onward. I think building and its architecture...More

Go to the Antiquities Museum instead. This is an ugly building (looks like a cement mixer), badly built and maintained. Huge areas of unused space. Eclectic display of items ranging from stones to pictures of the President. There are interesting displays here but it is...More
