Whenever the thought of going to the temple comes to my mind, this is the one place which I often think of. It is a very ancient temple made out of rock, it has a very peaceful and serene environment. The new trustee has taken every effort to keep it clean and tidy, which is very commendable. Unlike most other kovils, the lighting of camphor is not allowed in here, for the obvious reason that it accumulates soot. The kovil is crowded on auspicious days, but calm and peaceful on other days. With ample parking available, i think this is a good temple to take guests, in the need arises.

The grandeur and the architecture endorse the devotion inside. The temple atmosphere reinforces ancient traditions and values and brings about peace and happiness within. Must-see in Colombo. This place was not included in our packaged itinerary, so had to spend an exorbitant sum for the cab mainly to visit this temple.

Sri Ponnambalam Vanesar Temple is located in the Kochchikade area in the Colombo city. The temple got two entrance with ample car park and sanitary facilities. This temple is designed according to the Indian vedic plans (resembles human body) and was elected with black stones where beautiful statues are placed as gods for worshiping according to Hindu religion. Annual temple festivals used to place here and daily poojas are carried out by well educated Brahmin Gurus. Every Hindu religion festivals are celebrated here along with each Fridays you can participate in the special poojas. Also on Tuesdays too there will be a large gathering of devotees due to "Amman" poojas and lot of pilgrims who used to visit the nearby St. Anthony's church used to come over here.
You are allowed to participate and view the regular poojas free of charge while you can pay and ask them for to perform special poojas to bless you and your family.
The out die of the temple may look busy but once you enter in to the temple complex its surrounding are with large and small trees along with garden type area. Inside the temple is very silent expect the pooja periods. You will feel the unknown power inside the temple.
This temple used to be opened everyday from 6.00am to 11.00am and again 5.00pm to 9.00pm. It is recommended to keep your footwear at the service center as the administration won't allow you to enter in to the temple with them. Also they provide water to wash your face legs and hands. Men are requested to remove their shirts before entering the temple on special days while it is better for the women to wear simple long dresses.
You can use the public transport system to reach this temple as there is bus halt next to this temple. It is walking distance from the Kotahena bus stand.

This temple which we were informed by our Best Holiday guide was the best in Colombo , I thought it looked and appeared more like a 2nd hand shop than a temple.

This is situated at Colombo 12 (Kochchikade) just opposite to St. Anthony s Church.
This temple was originally constructed somewhere in 1857 it was small and in 1905 it was fully constructed with black granite. It is a Shiva temple with South Indian traditions. There are lots of statues (Deities) and chains made out of granite it looks great and mind blowing people of this area consider this temple is very powerful and God grants their reasonable requests. It is worth mentioning that some of the chins in the temple is made out of granite it is a wonderful carvings. If you are a Hindu it a must visit, This temple has all necessary structures of a Shiva temple, if you are not a Hindu it is worth seeing a marvelous ancient architecture.
All can enter the temple but be decently dressed. There is no fees or charges. sometimes the person at the office can help you with the tour around the temple and it is free.

The temple located just on the main road near Kochikada / Hettiawatta in Kotahena area of Colombo. For the vehicles the assess point is via the main road though the main entrance to the temple is on the other side.
It is a good compound. When you enter the compound from the main entrance and just before entering the complex on the left you will find idols of Lord Hanuman/ Anjaneya and Goddess Amman. you walk around to complex and in the back towards the right hand side there is a cow shed with lot of cows. you can feed these cows with your hand if you wish to. You can park your car on the right hand side of the complex right upto to the entrance of the complex. There is also tap to wash your hands and legs on the left hand side just before you enter the complex.
As you enter the temple complex there is a idol of Lord Suryan on the left and LOrd Chandran on the right. The main presiding deity is Lord Shiva. You will find it very imposing and will feel the power of the god when you stand in front of it. You will find the Goddess on the right side of the entrance to sanctum sanctorum. This place will be like a huge hall. After taking darshan walk around the complex. You will find several idols including Lord Ganesa on the left hand corner at the back of the complex, statute of Shiva as Nataraja, Lord Vishnu, Lord Murugan. You also have a navagraha and Bhairavar idol.
From the architect of the main complex you can see that this temple is centuries old.
Just as you exit the temple complex you will find a complex on the right hand side where you can rest in the corridor. There is also wash room facilities there.
You will certainly feel at peace once you take the darshan and blessings of the god here.
