I'm yet to go in there, cz one day when I visited in 2015 with some friends from abroad it was closed for some weird reason. So we could just take pics outside.
Then went this year with my almost 3 yr old on Saturday n bcz of some function their parking was full.(actually half the park was closed with a line for no good reason n the rest of it was full. There was parking in the back, again a security guy chased us out)
Ticket for local adult is LKR 100, recommend not to go in weekday evenings n weekend when events are held.

This is a place that steps back to yesteryear - the recreation of a village out of time. Find a guide or just stroll through. Enjoy simple village cooking or an exotic ice-cream - flavoured with local fruits such as Tamarind. Shop for a trinket or souvenir. The people are helpful and friendly.

Displays Sri Lanka in olden times. Where people were self sufficient without the modern amenities of today’s world. Model of the village with mud houses. Village head ‘ Maha Gamaya ‘ was the most important person. ‘Veda Gedara ‘ was the traditional doctor. Village also had farmers , gardeners , artisans. You can spend typically 20-30 min here. Although it’s better to skip.

Four of us were most impressed by this 'mock up' village. Helpful and informative guide on historical aspects of this wonderful island. Good gift shop!

Really I know nothing more about Sri Lankan Village life, having now visited this place. Absolutely zero. On the other hand, this place does a great job of replicating the filth and litter and rip-offs of Colombo, and for this privilege you get to pay an admission fee (with an extra special fee for foreigners!). The place is pathetic, and probably getting worse by the month.

My comments based on our visit in 2016 .At that time the place was functioning very well .Actors were there helping and teaching people and school children. But some stalls were closed.Need bit more cleaner .The shop sells goods in very high prices.

When it re-opened in 2010 or 11 it used to be a nice morning or afternoon out for the whole family. It was crowded, fun and there were many fun activities for children and adults alike. however, this place is no longer funded or run properly. It's depressingly run down. no staff or actors. sad situation.

While not as polished as some similar places in India, it still gives a very good insight into the life of past and,( to a small degree) present. Visiting on 5th feb 2018, I was shown around by 2 delightful ladies who were more than willing to share their insight and answer any questions as well as take photos of this solo traveller. The snake man was very obliging and encouraging, even taking me to meet his wife on my second round after the non-compulsory tour. Children were practising/ learning traditional dances; the museum section was very interesting and at no time was I badgered to buy souvenirs, not even when checking out the souvenir shop.

Commercially set up to sell expensive souvenirs this village is a waste of time. Two girls behind a counter take your money and give you a ticket and then you walk about 3 steps and another girl at a turnstile checks you have a ticket!

A small number of buildings are made to look like "ancient" shacks you see people still living in around Sri Lanka. Trouble with these here is that they are actually brick with mud thrown on them - obvious because it places it is falling off!

And the thatched roofs unfortunately don't look so good with plastic sheets to keep the weather out.

Virtually no information anywhere to help identify what you are supposed to be looking at. The buildings are scattered with discarded clothing, present day mops and brooms lie where ever they have been dropped and it appears that staff (or others) actually use the buildings to live in. Hence the scattered junk.

Maximum 10 minutes would see you walk around the "historic" area and the next 30 minutes checking the stalls and souvenir shop. A chart on the wall there showed a 47% sales achievement.
