Fantastic to be driving through the National Park in search of Wild Horses and then wandering on foot to reach them. We were part of a tour group on the Trans Mongolian Explorer tour so our accomodation was pre booked. It wasn't quite what we expected. We thought we would be in a single ger on its own. We didn't... Vastness and emptiness, dotted with herds of horses, sheep's and cows. In the winter, the snow covered land extends as far as the eyes can see. Toyota Cruisers are popular to traversed such difficult terrain with tracks left by previous jeeps or one makes new ones to search for the wild ones, like the red deer and the endangered takhi... We were lucky enough to get several sightings of the Przewalski's Horses grazing close by on hillsides. It was a magical experience watching these beautiful, endangered creatures We stayed in an Extra Ger in the park which was a little basic (as you might expect) but well worth it just to wake to see the mist over the Steppes and... From Ulaanbaatar to Hustai national park need about 1.5hr, with a very beautiful view along the road before arrived at Hustai National Park. There is no public transport so We rent a car for a day $60 USD per car from Zaya Hostel. It's a great place if you like to see a wild horse, its not easy to see... More

This is a great experience. These horses had vanished from Mongolia but some dedicated people brought horses from zoos in Holland and around the world. There is now a herd of over 300. Humbling to see how near extinction was reversed. These horses were courageous and adapted to living in these harsh conditions in the wild. Watching a stallion guard... More

If you like viewing wildlife or hiking, Hustai is a great opportunity for both. This is home to the only viable wild population of Przewalski's horse which is the only true wild horse in the world. We also saw good herds of red deer with several very impressive stags among them. Lots of open rocky ridges that are inviting hiking... More

Beautiful landscape and we had the added bonus of not only seeing the takhi (wild horse) but also several herds of red deer. The bulls/bucks were bugling to each other across the hills, and we saw some fighting as well. Amazing place to experience the wildlife! Also, wonderful burial site with standing stones as well as a magnificent deer stone.... More
