Great and ornate Wat. It is nice and near the center of town. It is a good place to stop for about an hour.

The temple I went that had the least "touristy" feel! Could observe many of the locals performing their merit-making rituals and ceremonies in front of the Buddha. The temple is colourful and had many sculptures around for worshipping!

Not a particularly large sight to see, but definitely a must-see. Wat Si Muang holds a lot of history and is a place of a legend that a young pregnant woman sacrificed herself by jumping into the hole where the city pillar is placed, letting the pillar drop on her body. Slightly creepy, but it is clear the temple is... More

You will visit many large and beautiful temples during your trip to Southeast Asia. Wat Si Muang is not large and not full of large statues. It has however something very different about it: charm and a sincere sense of tranquility a very real place of worship. It is the soul of Vientiane. I try to go early on a... More

A local friend took us to this temple after having visited some of the more popular ones. So I had a little bit of an insiders view - one thing to check outside of the temple is the Buddha under a beautiful bodhi tree. It's right in the parking lot. The main temple is actually two - the big one... More

There was much activity at the temple when I visited on a Saturday: people were getting blessings from a monk in one part of the temple, while in the other worshippers were making offerings while women were cleaning dishes on the sides. The ceiling and the window shutters are beautiful. Might be useful to get a guide or read a... More

It is a small and beautiful temple bustling with local life. Many locals come to pray and worship. For a donation of 5000 lak, you receive two joss sticks and flowers to offer inside the temple. A monk will bless you with holy water and tie strings to each wrist for your donation. My friends got white strings and donated... More

This is where the locals come to wish for luck...picturesque wooden wat, very colorful. Wat Si Muang is the first temple you'll see driving into Vientiane. Plenty of photo ops on the grounds including a statue of Arou Rang outsude and the charming City Pillar up the street.
