I had expected something more, both in terms of the objects hosted in the museum (where photos are not allowed) and the gardens.
Not much worth the entrance fee -
especially when visiting just after having been to the Wat Sisaket, just across the road, the Ho Prakeo does not stand out.
Quite nice the wooden sculpture in the garden.

This was the first temple I visited in Ventianne Laos. Such a stunning temple with well maintained grounds. The temple housed Laos religious art, sculptures etc. Buddhas adored just outside the temple. I love the many red flowers and butterflies outside. Dress modestly when entering the temple . Inexpensive fee to enter.

A classic must-see in Vientiane. Alas, since the gaudy paint-job in 2015 it no longer has the same commanding elegance. Still, the museum inside has excellent examples of regional Buddhas and the galleries are lovely.

Entrance is 5,000 which is a bargain. The grounds are lovely. Be modestly dressed or they'll give you a sarong to cover up. The exterior of the building is gorgeous! The interior is not so much. Lots of dusty cases with Buddha statues without much signage to tell you why they're displayed. Could be better.
We brought a snack with us and sat and enjoyed the gardens after our visit. Right next door to the Presidential Palace.

This place deserves a lot more recommendations than it is getting. Rich history, and wondrous collection of Buddhist statue.

Buddhist temple and museum together , photo taking is not possible in the inner temple as there is a lot of ancient artifacts on display. Worth a visit if you want to understand more about Laos culture

Located very close to many of the restaurant and hotels, this beautiful temple is well worth the visit. You'll enjoy the lovely landscaping and tranquility of the grounds.

At first I thought there wouldn't be much to see here, but once inside I was delighted I'd come. There are some really old wooden and stone Buddha image statues inside this museum, unlike anything I saw anywhere else, and certainly very different to the plastic golden ones one sees most everywhere else. Outside in the garden, there's also a lone stone jar from the Plain of Jars, which few people get to see because it's so far, but here you can at least see one of the jars. Real pity I couldn't take any pictures inside the museum, but in a way that kind of makes it special too.

With various English spellings Wat Ho Phakeo (ຫໍພະແກ້ວ) is also known as Hor Pha Keo and Ho Prakeo. Perhaps this temple (wat) near Wat Si Saket and the Presidential Palace has various spellings because there are two entrances, though visitors remove shoes to walk in the main one, and exit through another. Hundreds of visitors crowd through this magnificently reconstructed active temple which also serves as a museum. Constructed in 1560s to house the Emerald Buddha, it’s been rebuilt several times, especially after the Thai army destroyed it in 1779 taking the Buddha to Bangkok. Not only is it necessary to remove shoes and caps/hats, but long pants are required for men, and women are discouraged to enter with bare shoulders. Be respectful. This is an active religious temple.
When here, I suggest meditating in the park-like setting before entering the temple (wat). I reversed that, enjoying the park after visiting the wat. A certain tranquility surrounded me, and I regret not having eased my travel-weary mind before entering the wat.

This review is quite late. Ho Pra Keo Temple is an old temple which used to shelter the Emerald Buddha. It has unique architectural features with a serpent staircase. It has now been converted into a museum. There is a beautiful garden with colorful flowers surrounding the old temple building, hence, giving visitors a refreshing feel and good photo opportunity.
