A park of hanging out and evening stroll.

The park is along side the Mekong and a nice place for an evening stroll and jogging. It is also near to the night market. Nice place to hang out after the night market activities.

Its worth taking an early evening stroll to see the variety of stalls on the market. Most will take THB or USD if you dont have any KIP. The park looks far better as the sun goes down than it does in daylight. A photo of the fountain is a must!

Actually the title says it all. The place is not far from the nightmarket and directly at the river front. The statue itself isn't really spectacular.

Most of the night life is around the area... start off with the evening by the riverside, whereby there will be many exercise groups doing dance aerobics... watch the sunset over the Mekong river, while admiring the opposite river bank which is Nongkhai! The night market is the next place to visit, loads of touristy souvenirs and other memorabilia like... More

It is well kept but there is nothing special to see in the park. What bothered me was the lack of benches so that I had to sit on the ground if I wanted to enjoy it for a bit longer.

...can be obeserved here in the morning and in the evening. In fact this is nothing "special" but most tourists never have another chance to see how city population in Souteast Asia spend their freetime. Here and along the whole promenade it's presented life - including all the vendors, street food, drinks and so on. It's not quiet, it's pure... More

Yes the statue is striking, though badly proportioned.. Poor bugger looks like his mum took thalidomide. Years ago when i first came to vientiane all this area was filled with trees, beer stalls and life. Lao life not tourist life. With a bit of corruption and aid money the place became sterile and fearfully hot. All those lovely shade trees... More

Chao Anouvong Park is along the Mekong River. It is popular among locals and tourists for recreational activities especially in the evening. Many big events was held around this park. In my opinion, it is the only park in Vientiane area that is OK. I was here for work (more than 4 years), so don't miss it if you visit... More

Besides the huge statue of Chao Anouvong, not much to see...weather beaten flora and fauna and the semi dry Mekong. Nice to walk along the river, but thats about the jest. Find other thibgs to do like walj up the strand to Patuxai.
