This shrine is conveniently located next to Simeung Wat and i-cat gallery. It is small but so lovely. The artifacts they have preserved inside are amazing, discovered during the excavation and the very reason for building the temple. It would be a richer experience if there were more signs and explanations of what is what and why these items are... More

The Pillar Shrine is interesting for local people but there is not much to see and of minor interest for foreign visitors

Like every major town in the region, Vientiane now has its own gilded phallic symbol to ward off bad luck, or attract good fortune. Built on a prime piece of land near the city centre, the government didn't spare any cost or effort on this structure. It is not a temple, as some here claim, but a shrine with origins... More

This sacred place is peaceful and beautiful, it will show you the history of Vientiane. Good place to visit as it is just next to another must visit place : Wat Si Meuang.

This is the site of the "city pillar" of Vientiane. The story of it's placement is dramatic. It is in the smaller room behind the main temple and is wrapped in a holy cloth.

A beautiful temple in a prominent location along Setthathirat Street. It was built on the spot where 473 stone city pillar fragments dating back to the 4th or 5th century were unearthed along with other artifacts. An attractive temple, it stands out as a landmark in the city centre.

It's a beautiful building for the outside and well worth a second look. The frontage is superb. However, on the inside, it's a bit clinical and boring. Just a room with a Buddha in it. Please do not buy the caged birds being sold outside. If you do, you are contributing to a cruel practice and ensuring it continues. Resist... More

Nothing spectacular but worth a look. Walk around and see it from all sides. I like the shape of it especially from behind
