Arc de triomphe Lao

A bit far from city center if you walk but once you are there you can take nice pictures and relax near the fountains. One of the main things to see in Vientiane

After a small cost to go up to the top, you get great views of Vientiane but other than that, not much else to do except admire the dancing fountains, if they are working.

Really beautiful landmark that has taken some influence from Paris I think. The whole area is really nice looking, in the other end there's gong of world peace and the other end there's that landmark. The whole thing is really nice looking. And there's some national official buildings both sides if that area. From that landmark there goes long straight... More

Vientiane is not well known for many sightseeing locations but Patuxay is near the top of the bucket list of places to visit here. For 3000 kip you get access to climb the stairway to the victory monument of Laos flanked by a green and well landscaped space which forms the divider of the city's main boulevard. The views about... Just a plain cement 'arc du triomphe' like in so many other cities accross the world. Take a photo and move on.

This is not the most exciting monument you can ever see, it is basically a concrete block. But whilst in Vientiane it is worth a visit. For a very small fee you can climb to the top which is about seven floors, something I would not recommend doing in 40 C temperatures.

An impressive monument and a good photographic subject. There were plenty of tourists here and it seemed to be one of the sights to see.

Not super familiar with the history but it is a beautiful monument non the less. For a foreigner cost is 3,000 Kip. Photographers are there to sell photos taken by the monument or fountain.

I guess we couldn't miss this rather large 'triumphal arch' in the middle of town, and so we stopped by to have a look. One of us climbed to the top to have a nice city view, but otherwise there really isn't much to see or do. I lies in nice surrounds, though, with benches and water-features (not functioning, but... This monument is a fun place to drive by. Yes you can go to the top and have an overview of Vientiane but there is not that much to see... The story about the cement being used that was supposed to help built an airport (the cement came from the US) is fun fact.
