Unfortunately, the museum was closing early for the May 1 holiday, so our visit became very rushed. My impression is that the historical collection is quite rich, and signage in English is extensive.

I noted that comrade Lenin is still around, but he has been moved to the back of the museum.

Great museum - highly recommend. Includes ancient artifacts, a ger, cases full of textiles - clothes, carpets, bags, etc., one floor devoted to Soviet-era history. Lots to check out! Also some nice things in the gift shop.

Very interesting the museum. You can know how it was from the beginning to current days. It’s looks like not all historical things are in place

Most important and impressive Museum in Central Asia that offers a unique experience to understand the history, culture, civilization and heritage of Kyrgyzstan,a beautiful country. The exhibits expose the visitors to archeological finds, models of caves and excavations from the past. The yurts, the traditional dwelling house of nomads, beautiful embroidery, vibrant carpets and a variety of exhibits are educative as well as informative. A must visit. There is an admission ticket to enter the place.

We had a mixed experience visiting here. We were allocated a museum guide to take our small group round the museum. She was totally hopeless and did not seem to know anything! Most of us drifted off to explore the exhibits alone. A lot of the interactive displays were not working. On the other hand, we found many of the exhibits interesting especially the top floor dedicated to more modern times. We were told we could not take any photographs inside but a lot of other visitors were. A confused visit overall.

For most visitors, Bishkek will be their entry point into Kyrgyzstan ; so a visit to the State History Museum would be essential to understand the country. It is a modern museum with large rooms, very sharp displays, good light and clear explanations. Easy to spend 2 hours at least.

Very easy to find, right at the heart of the city. Affordable entrance fees, was allowed to take photos with my camera.
There are several floors to explore - the museum itself looks pretty modern. There are descriptions in English and there is a coherent narrative being delivered. Some of the exhibits are quite interesting.
Of what I heard, some locals are not very happy with the story being told, so I grabbed myself a giant history book later and hope that clarifies some issues. Still worth checking out, it's among the better of its kind in the region. We liked the interactive elements, such as a game where you need to put things in a yurt in the right place.

This is the 3rd year in a row I have been to Bishkek, the first two years the museum was closed. This year it was finally restored and reopened. The end result is first class. They did a tremendous job with the renovations. If I had one gripe, it would be that there wasn't enough dedicated to the silk road history of the region, nothing about those times. However, it was a state history and not just a history of the region, so my expectations may have been a little too high. I was hoping to see more on Kahn and Atilla and the silk road. But it was very well done and 3 hours there went fast.

Interesting journey through the history of Kyrgyzstan, with lots of artefacts on display. Most signboards (all the of the main ones detailing the time periods) are in Kyrgyz, Russian and English.
Some problems with the English translations on the newer interactive displays (though the do say they are still testing these)
Looks to be more coming as there were some empty display cases.
