Fruit and veg market

This is a fruit and vegetable market with a bunch of covered stands. Not huge but there are a number of stands.

There is an ancient outdoor localmarket on one end of town .We came here hopping to find handicrafts but it was mostly a food market for locals. There were many exotic spices ,fruit ,honey and loads of smelly fish.

We recently visited and were excited to see all the local produce. There are so many delicious things to buy and also some hand crafted gifts.

The tamu Kianggeh has relocated several meters away to brushed up stalls divided into blocks A/B/C, etc. It's definitely cleaner with less smell but the soul of the place is gone unlike its predecessor by the embankment. It's still a place to get and see local foodstuffs e.g. dried prawns, anchovies, fresh veges, etc.

Normally this is the great place to try local cakes, fruits and vegetables. There are many stalls selling items from Borneo rain forest like herbs and fruits. A local and traditional cakes are tasty and so unique. The sellers are friendly and knowledgeable about the product they are selling.

We were taken here by our tour guide, the locals were friendly and invited us to try some of their local produce, it feels good to step a bit out side of your comfort zone but we werent that keen to try the durian fruit. It was a good, fun experience and we did find a couple of sweet treats... More

This market is one of the main fresh food markets, where many locals come to buy fruit & vegetables, seafood items and spices. It is well worth a look around but you probably won't need to buy much unless you plan on cooking your own food during your stay. Still a worthwhile place to have a look around. There are... More

Please note this is the newly constructed open air market. Not the old one. A good place to experience what locals have to offer. You can get live fowls, fresh local veggies and fruits and plenty of local delicacies. Not much of seafood (Jerudong fish market is still my preference) when I was there. If you drive there, expect to... More
