Sonargaon represents the lost city was an administrative center, port and mint-town in the 14th century the ancient Capital of Bengal (13th to 17th Century) had a long 800 years of history and heritage surrounded by rivers and its fertile lands was the symbol of warm business environment that once weavers could process fine linen and produces world famous Muslin cloths. At that time, the industry and culture of Bengal flourished during the Sultanate period. Hearing the story of wealth of Bengal many people came to illustrate their fortunes and many were famous and many were rich by existing various trades. Sonargaon historic city has many other memories of affluence and its self-independence during Sultanate rules, Bengal Sultan and the glorious story tale of Isha khan who was the chieftain of the Bhati kingdom.
Sonargaon historical expeditions and cruise on Mehna river is most favorable by tourists or photographers.

Luckily, our visit to Sanorgaon was in February which is a month of celebration for locals. Girls decorating her hair with flowers. Such a wonderful old construction with a sense of artistic beauty. Amazing lake, garden, and a statue of a leader knows as Father of Nation. Folk museum is so nice, 3 stories and many things to see in a short time. Our visit was outstanding. Thanks go to: TravelMate who organized our trip.

Excellent place to stay with your family. Friendly environment, 5 star food of high quality. Place for amusement, gym, swimming etc. The country unfortunately is always underrated, but ince you visit, you will encounter very friendly people of excellent hospitality. Frequently food bloggers don’t have to pay for food which is unusual for neighbouring country. Tourism is not a source of this country unlike neighbouring countries.

The folk arts museum is closed on Thursdays :( definitely check before you go given how painful it is to get there through Dhaka traffic. The first website which shows up when I googled the museum didn't even have domain rights, and I wouldn't rely entirely on the web for accurate info. Most annoying, don't understand why the public can't access grounds and lakes surrounding museum even when it's closed, no reason for it to be gated.

Luckily Panam City nearby was open (fyi that's closed on Sundays and half day Monday) so the traffic ordeal wasn't a total loss

Sonargaon is a historic city of central Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest capitals of the historic region of Bengal and was an administrative center of easter Bengal. It was also a port and trading center. During British colonial rule, merchants built many Indo-Saracenic townhouses in the Panam neighborhood, which are just ruins now. Sonargaon has a museum bearing witness of the old regime of Bengal.

The place has open fields where people can rest on the ground. It has few big ponds, the place also has many trees making it soothing even during summer times. It has public toilets and few food shops nothing extravagant though.

It would be wise to carry basic items like dry food, water, toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

Sonargaon is definitely one of the most historically and archaeologically significant places in Bangladesh as it was the oldest capital of the country. The government's renovation and restoration steps were commendable. The last time I visited, i had a brilliant time!

Sonargaon houses were the mansions of rich Hindu merchants forced out of Moslem East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) at partition. Most have been vandalized, but remnants of their beauty are enough to make the small town a drwa for Bangladeshi tourists of all faiths. It's a lovely place for a half day visit.

Sonargaon was the Mughal era capital city of Bangladesh. Isa Khan, one of the 12 "Lord"s of Bengal used to rule from here. Now it has become a tourist attraction, but in its prime time it was a impenetrable fortress which could only be accessed through water.

Many ground based invading forces failed to take over the city due to the strong naval defense available to the lords.

One of the must see historical locations of Bangladesh.

Some years back, probably 1991 I saw some pictures of Sonargoan along with a brief history of the place. How it was the base in Bangladesh of the Mogols. If I remember correctly it was where Isa Khan was based.

In 2003 I visited Dhaka as part of my holiday in Bangladsh, so naturally visitng Sonargoan was a must. I was very impressed with how the Bangladesh Porjoton (Tourist Board) have endevoured to keep as much of Soanargoan in its original state as possible, that I believe adds to the appeal of the place. It is like stepping into a bygone Era. the artifacts that have been kept helps remind us of our history and heritage. The big garden at the back of Isa Khan's Mansion is vast and tranquil. When I visited the place it had a mixture of tourists like my self, and students taking time out from thier studies relaxing in the sun. At the back of the garden was a wall that must have actted as a form of keeping unwanted guests out (or what we now refer to as security, nice to see that even in those days they were worried about it). In front of the main house is pool, with stautes on either side of the steps. An ideal place to take some photos. If it were possible I would have alos taken a dip in the ''Royal'' waters, as it was such a hot day.

All in all it was a very enjoyable day, aslo the prices were very reasonable. Getting to Soanargoan was alos fairly easy, we went by the yellow taxi service that is widely available in Dhaka. It is a trip that I would recommend to anyone whether they were interested in history or not.
