When exploring the Old Town of Baku you will find this extraordinary sculpture just after the entry gate. In a city with many statues, this one stands out as original and interesting. Not just a bust of the great local Azerbaijani poet and ghazal singer, the 3m-high structure depicts a multitude of images and is rooted firmly as a powerful symbol of his art.

This is a large bronze bust of Vahid.
Standing next to it, your eyes are about the level of his.
Apparently, it is very lifelike.

This monument is the poet Aliagha Vahid. He brought back the medieval ghazal as a poetic form which expresses both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of the love despite that.

It is in Old City, and along the City guided tour. Interesting to see if visiting Old City. It's in a nice setting, with benches and shade trees, so a pleasant place to stop.
