We were only allowed to see the outside of the mosque but enjoyed my time at this beautiful location. I learnt a lot about the history from our guide who was kind enough to inform us about it. A must visit to all tourists...it’s indeed beautiful. Go in the daytime!

Using the phone App BOLT, I paid 5 manat and went to the Heydar Mosque. It is very beautiful and I recommend everyone to take the time to visit it.
Avoid the expensive and overrated BS tours and save money by going there by yourselves and by your own means.
God is great!

Named after the former president, this Mosque is popular among tourists. Though a bit far from the city center that you need to ask your tour operator to bring you here, it is an architectural marvel especially at night when illuminated with floodlights.

This is the biggest mosque in Baku. It is really fascinating to view. Unfortunately you cannot go in the main hall because it is closed and only opens on Fridays.

Went there for the afternoon (Zuhr) prayers. The Mosque is a perfect blend of modern architecture and traditional design. Since it was mid summer we offered our prayers inside the air conditioned interior but I'm sure it would also have been better outside during pleasant weather. The qirat (religious recitation) was mesmerizing.
The Mosque is centrally located and from the city centre, the one way charge was 5 Manat (around $3). There's even an escalater within the premises to take visitors upward inside the Mosque. It's a high security area, and they made us drink the water bottle we were carrying just to make sure it was water and nothing else. Surprisingly, they didn't have chairs for those who can't offer prayers conventionally.
Not a typical tourist attraction, but if you have to pray in a congregation, then this is a wonderful experience.

This is a new, grandiose and beautiful mosque built in 1994 after regaining independence from the Soviets. I am surprised they didn't find a closer to center location to build it.
The mosque is in the northern residential suburbs and don't bother with any other means of transportation but taxi, even our taxi driver had problems finding it. It's a good 20 min ride from center, but you see other new developing parts of Baku along the way, so it's interesting. The taxi should cost 10-15 manat (5-8 euros) one way, depending on your haggling skills, fix the price beforehand. I would also advise to arrange with the driver to wait you there 20 min while you visit, as there are not so many as in the center. Beware you come there only for the mosque, there's nothing else to see.
The mosque is very nice, richly decorated, with 4 minarets on a huge plateau. Unfortunately, when we visited it was closed, so couldn't get inside.

The mosque looks amazing at night but to get there means wandeing way out of the centre to one of the little visited microrayons in the north of town.

This is a relatively new mosque. It was built in 1994 after Azerbaijan got its independence. The architecture is modern Shirvan architecture. They paid attention to the details. The main dome had colorful paintings and calligraphic inscriptions. It was very clean inside. The crystal chandeliers were beautiful. The landscape was equally impressive. It was popular with the locals and the tpurists

Took my breath away!!!! You have to go during the day, yes, but also it is a MUST SEE at night!!!! Truly a dazzling sight!!!

I went twice to this mosque in different time and on both occasion it was closed. I don't think it has any regular services but the exterior of the mosque is impressive enough.

When we went we took the metro late afternoon (it was full, but an experience!) to Nasimi station and came out at dusk.
It wasn't obvious how to get there but we found it on foot with a map I'd prepared (it's about a 10 minute walk - a few minutes first to a junction on the main road you come out on, turn right there and walk up the hill on a footpath, again along the main road).
It was a bit worrying having to walk around a completely random suburban area of the city as it was getting dark and as usual there were strangers milling around, but we had absolutely no problems going or walking back.
Plus the mosque at night is stunning!
