Well kept memorial to citizens who died in 1990. Seeing the pictures of these people engraved in marble made it very real.

Close to the flame towers, you start the lane at the Mosque of the Martyrs, then proceed past the graves, all showing the same date 20th January 1990 when they were mowed down by the Soviet Army. It is a moving memorial that leads you to the Eternal Flame Memorial.
Pause for respect, then enjoy the panoramic views of Baku and the Caspian Sea.

We went up to this scenic lookout area by funicular and found it to be interesting and important to the locals.
A must see in Baku.

We visited in the evening, just after dark, if anything that made this much more special. It’s a beautiful monument and is so well kept.

This was one of the first places we visited on our tour of the caucuses region. It does show the respect that is held for the people who lost their lives. This particular area is well laid out and leads to the monument with the flame burning in memory of those lost.

Unfortunately, as we travelled around the three countries (Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia), the loss of life in conflict became a recurring theme. They have not been well treated in the past. Even so, they are a friendly positive people and we wish them well for the future.

Martyr's lane is a tranquil spot in Uplands Park. It is well laid out but quite a sad place to visit.
