In 1924, when Russian-born Armenian architect Alexander Tamanyan conceived the first plan for the renovation of Yerevan, "Northern Avenue" was already foreseen. Nevertheless, it was never implemented until 2007 and later, in 2014, it was completely renovated. The beautiful pedestrian avenue, connecting "The Opera" and "Freedom Square" to "Abovyan Street" and "Republic Square", hosts the high-end Yerevan - luxurious residential buildings, office towers, hotels, cafés, restaurants, nichtclubs and top branded shops. Underground, a huge parking area and a shopping mall (the "Tashir Street Shopping Gallery"). "Northern Avenue" will certainly be - many times - on your way at any visit to Yerevan! And remember, the "Cascade Complex" is just behind "The Opera". Enjoy!

Section of this street has been turned in to a mall with limited car access. The shops and buildings are modren and it is one of the places to visit you like cafes, restuarants and crowds. Although the best cafes and restuarants in the city are not on this street they are located near by. It is a good street for coffees, drinks and crowd watching.

I like North Avenue because it is traffic free apart from having to cross one road - pedestrian/traffic lights. There is a wide range of eateries from fast food outlets to upmarket restaurants. Fashionable shops abound too. There is a large underground shopping area too. At the Northern end stands the famous Opera House, lake, park and eateries. The Southern end of the Avenue leads to 'The Jewel in the Crown', REPUBLIC SQUARE with it's seasonal dancing fountains and PINK STONE buildings. Well worth a visit!!
