The gardens in Tamanyan Street, at the bottom of the Cascade complex hold a number of statues and quite a few from Colombia’s Fernando Botero : the Smoking Woman, Roman Warrior and Cat.
I don't mind Botero's art, but I question why he is so prominent in Central Yerevan. Surely Armenian artists deserve this location ?!

This is one of several "modern art" statues in the gardens below the Cascade Steps and Fountains. The area is well worth a visit.

Having visited Bogota, Columbia where there are several sculptures/statues on display created by their local sculptor named Botero, I was surprised to see his creations here. One of them is the Smoking Woman.
Took a picture of this sculpture and those of the others ones on display at the park. I wondered how they shipped these statues from Bogota to Yerevan.

I recon if the model was a little slimmer, a lot of bronze could have been saved... but then it would only be too commonplace!

People who say it is grotesque are narrow minded.
This is what Botero is known for: Exaggerated human forms, political criticism and humor.
I think I see why they placed these in Cascade. It's a statement from the city of Yerevan. The unconventional sculptures make a statement that Yerevan is not Baku, Ankara or Tehran. Though surrounded by Islamic countries, Yerevan is more open minded, somewhat European and open to temporary art.

I loved the sculpture and sent pictures of it to many friends saying that she is waiting for them in Yerevan. What I love most is sitting on the benches near the stature and watching people react to her. She is one of the most photographed of all the sculptures and usually with people with a hand on her bum. So I guess you can say that she was entertaining for me.
