January 2023 -Looks nice at nighttime. Interestingly this structure was engineered by the Eiffel (of Tower fame) Company. Nice example of ironwork construction. But really it's just a bridge. I suppose the fact it's still standing after the American War is notable, and it's a free attraction.

As soon as we arrived in Hue we walked across this bridge to find a gold shop at the market. The pedestrian way is separated form the vehicle road but locals on bicycles often ride in the pedestrian lane so you have to be careful. It is just over 400m long and a perfect place to stop and take photos of boats and fishermen on the river.

Bridge is nice at night and a little bumpy in parts. Go over the bridge and turn right to find the markets.

This iron bridge spans the Perfume River and signified, at the time of it's construction, a modernization of Vietnam under the last imperial dynasty. Now, it has two lanes of traffic and sidewalks outside of the roadway so that you can safely walk across the bridge. We crossed it several times daily on our bikes. The bridge is lit up beautifully at night. Cars seem to be prohibited at certain times - or all the time due to the narrow lanes. We were on bikes so I don't know the details.

At first sight, one may think it is just a bridge. Yes, but "Truong Tien Bridge" is much more than only that! It was designed and built, between 1897 and 1899, by acclaimed French engineer Gustave Eiffel - a name that needs no further comments. It was the first bridge to connect, yet in the French colonial period, both banks of "Sông Huong" - the beautiful "Perfume River" - in downtown Huê. "Truong Tien Bridge" has been restored on several occasions along the years and its last restoration dates from 1991. In 2002, a colorful lighting system was installed, creating an atmosphere of beauty and romance, which attracts lots of tourists and locals. Best seen on early evenings, when all lights are already on! Enjoy!

Yes, without knowing about the lights you can be forgiven for wondering why this is even listed. After all, it’s a bridge.

If you only see it during the day...you will wonder what is so special about it. The history is very interesting as others have pointed out. But...be sure to see it lit up at night as the colors change along the spans and you will find yourself watching the bridge for a long time! At least I did! Magical!

Significant architectural element in Hue, the bridge was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the French structural engineer famous for Paris's Eiffel Tower, and was completed in 1899 by the French Colonial government. Built within a two year span, it has been severely damaged on three occasions. A great storm in 1904 closed the bridge until 1906; in 1946 it was damaged by Viet Minh forces fighting for independence from France; and finally during the 1968 Tet Offensive. We were passengers of a cyclo-driver, arranged through our Gate 1 Tour. Fun way to travel across the bridge spanning across the Perfume River; however, the heavy traffic and exhaust made for an uncomfortable journey.

At night this bridge is lit up in a variety of different colors that change every few minutes. Very impressive. Worth taking a walk along the river at dusk to see the array of colors at one time and how they change every few minutes.

Don’t know why this bridge is considered a tourist attraction. It’s mainly a way to get across the river from the city to the imperial city and back.
