The Saigon River in Vietnam is a vital waterway that runs through Ho Chi Minh City, offering picturesque views and serving as a hub for transportation and commerce. Its banks are lined with bustling markets, restaurants, and cultural landmarks, making it a vibrant and dynamic part of the city. Boating tours along the river provide visitors with a unique perspective of the city's skyline and its blend of traditional and modern architecture. Overall, the Saigon River offers a captivating glimpse into the heart of Vietnam's largest city.

Saigon riverfront looks pretty ordinary and not that inviting during the day.
However, it totally changes at night with all the high rises along it illuminated.
You can take a water taxi or river cruise to enjoy the views from the river.
The first is cheaper, but transporting you only from one point to another.
We opted for the river cruise going upstream and downstream for around 45 min in total. Views of downtown are really impressive, while the other side looks undeveloped.

We stayed in D4 (saigon royal) just across mong bridge (see review), an old steel pedestrianised bridge, from there to the Cầu Ba Son Bridge, the shoreline is very walkable with a lovely paved promenade, it is easier to cross the 8 lane road around this point, (if you find the traffic daunting), from here you can venture into little Tokyo, slowly progressing to Ben Thanh Market.

It's a river. There is the skyline, you can admire it from a rooftop bar or do a dinner cruise. Nice but lacks the atmosphere and buzz. Maybe they could have more restaurants or coffee shops or things going on. Felt kind of isolated when walking by the river during the day. Livens up a bit at night. Your likely to pass it so of course stop by.

Not much around Saigon river like promenade except Landmark 81 where they have some nice setup
Plenty of scope is there to develop more scenic infra next to it which crosses the city.
There is a day cruise for 15k VND which is less than a dollar, if have time one should definitely try.

Definitely one ☝️ of things connected to history, present and future of Saigon. The best is to take water bus and see the city from water. The river for business with many container boats 🚤 going upstream or downstream. From time to time contributing to flooding in many places of Saigon. There are great 👍 parks along for walk or sport

After walking around the central area of this bustling city , visiting bitexco tower, Gpo, Notredame cathedral, reunification palace, Ben Thahn market we tried to cross the busy road with no traffic light. A local came over and showed us how to do it, just slowly walk facing the oncoming traffic, it surprisingly worked thankfully. This is a big river so wanted to have a boat ride but there was no one doing it available other than ferries taking people to different parts of the river. So we found a lovely bar on the river and sat down and chilled watching the water traffic go bye.

I go for an early morning walk when I am on holidays to see a city before rush hour and to clear my head for the day. It is hard to get to the watefront walk as you have to cross a very busy road, but I survived! It is good to see the activity by the waterfront - the boats going past, the Junk boat, people exercising and doing tai chi. The worst part are the people who hassle you - the cyclos and the shoe cleaners - one even just started to glue my shoes and then demanded money. I found that near hotels there are a lot of security guards and there are more of this needed in this area. You don't feel unsafe, but it is annoying. When I put up my hands and said "no money" they quickly comprehended this and left! Winning!

It was nice to sit and have a drink in the evening and see the big dinner cruise boats all our up sailing down the river. In the city the traffic around the river us non-stop so it's not the most peaceful place to walk along.

We stayed in a hotel right on the Saigon river whilst in Ho Chi Minh. It’s a beautiful river and it’s fantastic to watch from the Bitexco tower or your hotel rooftop pool.
