This is one of the more popular temples in Cholon, Saigon's once-robust Chinatown. An establishment of immigrants of Fujian descent, Quan Am Pagoda is the place to worship the Goddess of Mercy. Both the ornate entrance and colorful interior are impressive. Like other Chinese religious sites in the area, it is rich in smell of incense.

It's an absolutely MUST DO but you won't be able to stay very long because you'll be breathing so much incense. The pictures you'll get are worth it though. I just wish they had a tour guide to explain what you're seeing. (That would be a great job for a budding entrepreneur here. I would have GLADLY paid $5 USD to get a 15 minute explanation)

This place has many interesting arts and statues. When I visited it was bit crowded but I had a good time here.

This temple is very brightly coloured and has almost all the deities that Chinese worship. There were many locals there while I was there. Interesting site if you are in the area.

On Lang Pagoda (also known as Quan Am and Hoi Quan On Lang) was supposedly the largest Chinese community pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City and currently supports both the Vietnamese and Chinese Buddhist. The pagoda is a complex consisting of three temples. Because there are multiple deities worshipped in the pagoda, it could be terribly confusing for casual visitors. However, because we literally knew very little about the significance or meaning of many of the statues, altars and temples, we simply enjoyed the incense-filled spaces, ornate altars and peaceful surroundings. However, to be completely honest, parts of the pagoda reminded us of being in a large food court, but instead of making a food choice, the choice was which deity's altar. The experience at On Lang Pagoda was probably not one that we will easily replicate again.

Temple complex with all deities. Mazu or Tin Hau (known in Vietnam as Ah Mah) is the central deity.

The temple looks a little gaudy for my liking. Not much character and not many worshippers also. Illumination behind the heads of the deities detract from their sacredness.

The entrance of the temple is under renovation.

This Pagoda is very beautiful and colorful. The walls are shiny and brightly painted. Perfect architecture of this golden and red colored Pagoda.

I'm not exactly sure why, but when we went to this pagoda it was incredibly busy, so the whole pagoda was filled with the smoke of burning incense. If it looks like it's busy on the outside, it might be a little overwhelming on the inside, and certainly not a place for peaceful reflection. Still, a really great place to go and see what daily spiritual life is like for the people of Vietnam.

Then you may as well see this one too! It's fairly well kept and they all bear a common theme. Impressive the amount of work that goes into these. It's worth the visit provided this is what you like.
