A good visit if you like arts!
This museum comprises of 3 blocks so be prepared to spend some time. They have about 1-3 floors depending on each block. Local artists mainly but worth a visit if you have time. We visited during summer and they don't have or did not turn on their aircon, so prepare a handheld fan.

    Great Collection
Great extensive line of artwork on display. The building is in pretty good condition both interior and exterior but expect some exhibition rooms to be much better than others. There wasn't much of a queue area nor a ticket check just a ticket booth. The building isn't handicap friendly. Highly recommended.

    Well worth a visit
This facility does not feature in the typical 'city tour' itineraries, but it was among the most enjoyable things I saw in Ho Chi Minh City. The buildings are lovely and lots of young women were enjoying taking selfies against the picturesque background. The collections are interesting, and have enough English to make it worthwhile. Recommended for anyone who enjoys art and architecture, or wants a break from the more crowded tourist places. Note that cellphones are allowed but (for reasons unknown) they charge extra if you want to take a regular camera inside. Also, no credit cards are accepted so prepare cash for the small entrance fee.

    Worth a look
Varying quality of art works on display, but includes some that are really good. The building itself is lovely but rather dilapidated - still charming, although the lighting in the galleries isn't great. No actual air con, but decent ceiling fans (much appreciated on the 38C day we visited!). We were there a couple of hours. Like most of the museums we visited in Vietnam, very inexpensive around 40kVND per person IIRC)

What an expected surprise. Beautiful building housing an impressive collection of vietnamese art work of an incredibly high standard.
This was a joy

Another very disappointing visit to a museum in Ho Chi Minh City.
The building itself is interesting architecturally but is not air conditioned. This makes the visit very hot and sticky!
Staff were uninterested in advising on the visit. They were preoccupied on their mobiles, chatting to each other or applying their makeup!
The artwork was interesting but it would have benefited from a more professional presentation.
The English translation of information was poor.

How this gets 4 stars I do not understand.
Some of the art is excellent and a pleasure to view, however overall the exhibits are poorly displayed, lack information and a lot of the pieces are obviously “rip-offs” of famous pieces.
A beautiful building that is not maintained and this is reflected in the way the pieces are hung. A complete disappointment and the quality of the English translation on the information boards leaves a lot to be desired.
Not an expensive visit but still not worth the money paid! When I compare it with the visit I did yesterday to the museum in Siem Reap I just shudder at the total disregard the curators have for the exhibits in their charge.
In my view not a place worth a visit.

This should be in your list if you like art and architecture. I contains art from Vietnamese artists across the years. Mainly blocked into pre and post 1975. It does contain a lot of political and war rhetoric, but amongst that there are some absolute gems.
Make sure you visit all 3 buildings. The one around the back that houses the ancient artefacts (mainly 20th century), has an ancient lift (no longer working) and beautiful glass worked doors. A step back into 1920s French living.

This is another set of buildings with interesting architecture. There were many people doing photo shoots here in the building and on the grounds. The art in here is definitely interesting. There are two main buildings with more paintings and sculptures, with a smaller building that has more art in wooden carvings and pottery. I enjoyed the two main buildings more than the smaller one. Well worth a visit for any art lovers.
