Right. If you're not an expert in the field of Asian antiques, this is not the place to start dropping the big bucks and learning the hard way. If money is no object and you like the look of something and can either take it with you or you don't mind paying 'they'll ship it' roulette - then absolutely have at it (with those parameters, shopping anywhere would be fun). There were many decorative objects we loved the look of but we know we're not experts, we've played shipping roulette before and realistically, the paint could still be wet on some things. There are some shops that will treat you well and let you look in peace. There are some where groups will be sitting, drinking, playing cards or similar and laughing loudly as they chat about you in Vietnamese. Up to you what you do in situations like this. We do however love a good fossick in dark and dusty cabinets and adore buying jewellery as it's small, light, can be worn and makes a fabulous souvenir of a visit. Haggle hard. Be aware that they will initially quote everything in US$. Which for the 7.7 billion people who aren't American can be tiresome. Ask for the price in Vietnam Dong, use your calculator (really recommend the XE app), figure out if it's fake, made of pressed tin and came out of a factory last week, are you still happy with the price? There are some nice silver items to be found if you look, but this is not bargain central. Still. What else are you going to do in HCMC after the market, the museum, the temples, the food etc. We're happy with the couple of pieces we bought (and there are a couple of other items that we're mid-haggle on with 2 weeks left in our stay).

There were certainly some interesting items but no real bargains. We went there by taxi and probably expected there to be more shops than there actually was. But good to check out and who knows what you might find on a future visit.

I agree with a lot of the other reviewers. I am in Vietnam a while so have time. I went in the evening. Apparently they close at 21:00 but most of it was dead at 19:00. The ones that were open were rude and unfriendly as if I was a nuisance. The antiques looked more like junk from old living rooms rather than authentic items which were thrown in shops. Nothing was well arranged and shops were dusty. The area is seedy particularly in the evening. If you do go, I would recommend only going if you have a lot of time like me or have a real interest. Also suggest going earlier in the day when more vendors are open. Roughly an eight minute walk from the main Walking Street. Use the gps on your phone. Easy to find.

Very rude shop owners, many that are asleep. All items in these shops are extremely expensive! You can get the same types of items, many that are Chinese, in Cambodia for about 1/5th of the cost. And, of course they price everything in dollars.

This street is not far from Ben Thanh market, so you could pop over. It is a small street with many shops, don't know if the products are real or not, but I wouldn't really bother to be honest. Many large items of course dusty as it seems like very few customers. The owners do not harrass you though, generally they are nowhere to be seen. Seems like some items have come from a garage sale.

I was on a time line, so had to choose just a few places to visit. The Antique street is home to a number of interesting shops, whilst some items are newish, there are some treasures to be found, and I found making an offer was not an issue, I used a cash mix of $US and local currency.

I spent 2 hours in the street, so allow 1 to 2 hours.

The street is small and some of the stores have great stuff. Most of the sellers are not very enthusiastcs about selling and you have to try hard to buy something. For the coin collectors, be aware that most of the coins being sold are fake copies.

Lots of genuine and fake Asian “antiques” in this short street. Some nice stuff on display especially Art Deco lamps and Asian ceramics.

Tiny street with a dozen of antique shops selling mainly old ceramics.
If found much more war memorabilia in the other market nearby (Dan Sinh Market).
Of course, although it’s small, it was much more interesting than Ben Thranh market.
If you are there, I suggest you do them all together in half a day.
