I had an incredible day with Lee.
He’s from the Mekong area and his passion to share the culture of his homeland is very evident.
This really does feel like going to a friend’s neighbourhood who’s eager to show you around.
Every aspect of this trip, be it the cycling, the boat ride, kayaking, walk through the local market and yes, the food - is designed to give you an up close view of what life on and around the river is like.
The people are wonderful. Whilst cycling, many kids and even adults will often beam and shout a friendly ‘hello’ as you go past or as they go past you going in the other direction.
Getting a hug from ‘strong’ uncle no. 5 will prob be one of my cherished memories. Life on the river is hard, but you wouldn’t know it from the smiles and warmth you see all around.
Lee’s bubbly energy is infectious but we also found time to talk on a wide range of topics during the day and during the 2 hour drives to and from the Mekong - Vietnam, the war, the future, our families and how our cultures are similar and different.
I was lucky enough to go on a solo private tour but I’m sure a small group will be just as much fun.
A really special experience that you won’t soon forget!
